“Hidden gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2012

I spend my business life on and off airplanes, so when it comes time for a quick getaway, the idea of heading off to the airport is not very appealing! Imagine how lucky I felt to "discover" a Banyan Tree Resort in Bintan, Indonesia - - less than an hour from my front door in Singapore! My partner and I spent several nights at the property recently and were incredibly impressed by the friendliness of the staff, the high quality of food and ambience, the luxuriousness of the Villa, and the amazing spa treatments! This is an idea destination for those looking to unwind, enjoy the lush surroundings, and be treated royally by a friendly, efficient, and thoughtful team of hospitality professionals!

Peace and serenity is being eroded by an ever-increasing number of small children staying at the resort . There are many health and safety concernes for children here due to the steep terrain and inadequate fencing around the villas and public areas . Management are irresponsible in allowing small children to stay here - even with a signed disclaimer .
This resort was one of our favourites but alas it is no longer a couples' retreat . Even the "adults-only" pool frequently had noisy children .

Everyone on the site is very polite and friendly. Especially Mr. Erlangga Farizky, the executive assistant manager who provided an excellent service in assisting our room change. He was very patient and took time to make sure we were happy with what we got. Because of his timely help we had a very satisfactory and enjoyable stay.

We just spent 3 nights at the Banyan Tree in Bintan for our golf holiday. I agree with many of the previous comment that the hotel needs urgent refurbishment. We stayed at the Sea Front Villa. It was very dated and most of the furnitures are already very old and worn. The shower was terribly weak, jacuzzi outside at the balcony was very dirty and did not tempted us to try. We paid over US$400 per night, so we expected much better room than this.

Staff English level was so so only, most of them do not understand what we exactly want, but yes they are all very polite and friendly. However, the whole time that we were there, we did not have too much luck in a lot of things. First day that we arrived, we wanted to ordered Room Service, a beef burger, a steak, and a mango stick rice, but after we ordered, we were told that beef burger was sold out, so ok we changed to lamb chop, and 2 minutes later, we were informed again steak and mango sticky rice also were sold out. The other time we ordered for some satay skewers, they were sold out too. The resort was not so packed, I do not understand why everything is sold out, maybe we were very bad luck. All the food is extremely overpriced, 1 pizza, 1 lamp chop and 2 cokes cost us US$100. Food standard is just so so.

Spa was extremely overpriced too. We did not even go for spa but only 90mins of massage, that cost US360 for the two of us! The next day we did the massage in Ria Bintan Golf Club, only costed us US150 for the two of us and for the same time, and the massage was actually even better.

If you are thinking to stay in the villa, please be prepared to be exposed to wild life, including flies, mosquitos, lizards etc... which we were prepared so we will not complain. However, when you paid that level of money and expecting a 5* villa, then the Banyan Tree at this time is not up to standard. You may be better wait until the renovation is competed to try the hotel. Please be prepared that things in Bintan are just like Bali, super pricy, do not go with an expectation as Phuket or Thai. However, we have had a great time playing golf there.

Room Tip: Wait until the hotel finish the entire renovation project.

I cannot say how grateful i am to the Aaras, he's the polite young man that checked me into a most wonderful villa i had ever been. and travelling alone , the privacy yet, being safe is of most important. the villa gives complete privacy. Except sometimes u do get visits frm little ants , when u left any left over of fruits...Iloved their housekeeping. each day i came back to my room to find a diferent towel animals which they wl fold and put on my bed ! I think words just simply cant tell of my experience i had in Banyan tree Bintan. all is perfect except one thing... if only there a even a small place that could get a drink . other than that.... it's a perfect destination.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Close to Singapore lies a sweep of brilliant Indonesian islands, the most spectacular of which are found in the Riau Archipelago. Bintan Island has long been one of the region's most popular destinations. Banyan Tree Bintan occupies 240 hectares on the sea front and is comprised of 72 villas modeled on traditional Balinese architecture, all beautifully located in virgin forest. The resort's Jacuzzi villas have jacuzzis built into their sun decks whilst the two-bedroom pool villas have their own plunge or swimming pools and are particularly suitable for families. Culinary variety is the name of the game with "Crossroads" offering Western cuisine in an air-conditioned or al fresco setting while the Saffron Restaurant serves Thai and South East Asian specialties. You can also dine in your own villa - simply order from the a la carte menu or make a selection from the BBQ dinners cooked in front of your eyes. The new food and beverage outlet, "The Cove," is modern and up-tempo; Mediterranean cuisine is prepared here to perfection. ... more   less
