“Breathtaking Views from the Tallest Building in Solo”
Reviewed 14 February 2012

Solo Paragon is by far the tallest building in the city of Solo (Surakarta), Central Java. The views from the hotel rooms out across the city and to the mountains in the background are simply breathtaking. If you love a great view, stay at Paragon. At the time of writing it is also Solo’s newest international hotel.

We stayed for one night in a deluxe room on the fifteenth floor; this is the type of room with a separate seating area with a sofa and chair, and a TV that swivels so you can watch from the sofa or in bed. We were impressed by the size and spacious feeling of the room, as well as the many windows from which to admire the view.

The bathroom was on the small side, with a gloomy shower cubicle, the type where the sprayer is fixed to the wall. There was no bath tub. As darkness fell, we discovered that the hotel room itself wasn’t particularly well lit, with an assortment of lamps but no main lights.

The air conditioning worked well and we liked that you can also open the windows. There was a minibar, and tea/coffee making facilities, but only one teabag and one coffee sachet, in a room clearly designed for two people.

Everything was very clean and functioned well. The TV had some international channels such as National Geographic, MGM and StarSport, as well as local channels. The bed was comfortable and we slept soundly.

We were not overly impressed by the service, having queued for a long time to check in, while watching a reception staff member standing around doing very little. The hotel interior is not always well signposted. We went to the mall which is attached to the hotel, and struggled to find the way there. The hotel room was also lacking in information about hotel facilities; there was no brochure for the spa or information about the fitness centre facilities, but there were advertisements for hotel rooms and accommodation packages displayed in the room.

The hotel has a swimming pool, fitness centre and spa, of which we tried the pool. It was definitely on the small side and a uniform depth of 1.2m, with a shallower kids’ pool, but it was pleasant and peaceful.

Overall, Solo Paragon is worth it for the amazing views across the city. If views aren’t your thing, check out the other hotels in Solo; there are many to choose from.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor to get the best of the view.

I stayed at the Solo Paragon Hotel $ Residences for 3 nights in December 2011 and it was the worst hotel in town. First, the service was so slow that it took an hour to check out. Second, the design of the entrance and the lobby of the hotel is most unwelcoming and the feng shiu is very bad. I feared that if there is an earthquake everyone in it would be died in this building. I would stay at the Ibis or some other hotels in Solo. It is not worth the money or time to stay at the Solo Paragon. It looks nice on their website, but it is most disappointing when you arrived. The chaotic space at the lobby with heaps of plastic flowers is enough to kill me. Please try to stay away from this hotel if you can.

I booked a deluxe room which is very nice and comfortable. The place is also not far from tourist spot like batik shops and cullinary area in Galabo. The hotel staff is very friendly, the cafe in the hotel also serves good meal.

Room Tip: Since the hotel is now surrounded by noisy activity outside --building mall/apartement which show yo...

I stayed here with my wife and son to attend a cousin's wedding. check-in was fast and pleasant. the room is OK in terms of size and furnishing. some things I don't like:

- TV was not working properly, the channels are blurred
- Shower is fixed at the wall, this is the most impractical kind of shower.....

The location is surprisingly remote... you have to go thru a small lane to arrive there. its walking distance to Solo Grand Mall (although Solo Square would be a better mall).

Breakfast is OK. The biggest problem I have is with the lift. Only 4 lifts serving 25 floors of approximately 30 rooms. waiting time for lift is quite unacceptable at about 10 minutes when its crowded.

I think the website gives an honest representation of their rooms, I got mine exactly like how I saw it on their website.

Other than that everything else is quite OK. Its a decent stay, though not exciting or excellent.

I stayed 2 nights in this hotel and just loved the new-ness of everything. My room is fairly large with a 2-seater sofa facing a rotate-able flat screen tv. On the opposite side is the queen size bed, so you can watch either way. The room is well lit and very comfortable, gives one a very cozy feeling. If you like high floors, this hotel will suit you as the lowest is 9th floor (2nd-8th being apartments) and the highest is 25th.

The staff is very friendly and courteous. Overall, a very pleasant impression.

Room Tip: Choose a room not facing the ongoing construction work at the next door shopping mall as there are n...
