“5 star service, 3 star price !”
Reviewed 16 August 2012

Extremely central right in the middle of Ubud's busy Monkey Forest Road with dozens of shops and restaurants pretty much right outside the front, however set opposite a large rice paddy field which gives a quiet and peaceful village feel .
The staff here are very well trained and always have a smile on their face and happy to please.
The hotel is about 20 years old, but cleanliness and maintenance are A1.
We stayed for 2 nights, the first in a standard which was quite basic in the older front section of the hotel , however had a very spacious bathroom but no TV or minibar/fridge,
The 2nd night was in a deluxe. The deluxe being a new room at the back of the resort built just a few years ago being quite spacious and well appointed, It included a TV (with satellite channels) and minibar/fridge. If your budget allows I would take the deluxe.
Breakfast is Buffet style and good, the restaurant staff Ayu and Dewa were absolutely lovely.
Much thanks also to Nyoman and Cendra at the front office, you made our stay most comfortable.
We will be back.

Room Tip: If your bubget allows choose the new deluxe rooms at the back of the resort (rooms 301a, b, or c) th...

The staff are all that embodies the island - warm, helpful and always polite. From check-in assistance to bookings for spa /tour and the gardener, you can be sure of a smile and greeting from them (but do look approachable first). More importantly - the rooms are spacious, clean and made up every day while you are enjoying breakfast - a service that surpass even some 5-star properties that I have lived in. I was in a superior room that came with 2 large beds and the breakfast was ample - bread, cereal, juice, bacon, ham, sausages, eggs, pancake and some local delicacies like fried rice and noodles, sweets and fruit. However it would be terrific if they could add a bit of variety to it. There is complimentary transport to surrounding areas which was useful for us to go to places a bit far off for dinner. The driver recommended us a place for spare ribs and it was the best tasting piece of meat I have tried in my 6 visits to Bali.

The massage - this is definitely worth mention. We went to top rated spa places that we saw on Tripadvisor but none was better than the balinese massage here. The masseur Mr. Made was fantastic! Even better than my experiences at Pangkor Laut Resort in terms of expertise. Just to make sure, I asked my sister to try and she agreed with me.

The next important point is that the location is great being in the centre of monkey forest road - that means you can go just about anywhere without walking too far, a plus point for my family as most of us are nearly at the senior age bracket. After this lovely experience, we tried a new place nearer to the airport for a night and we were utterly disappointed and wished we had stayed back until departure.

Best regards to Nyoman and his team - keep up the good service!

Room Tip: Being in the middle of a happening street, there will certainly be some noise and this was music fro...

The Cendana Resort & Spa is set amid nice paddy fields with beautiful landscape walkways between the chalets. The rooms are clean, and the bathroom set given smell like it comes from a spa.
It is conveniently located at Monkey Forest street, within walking distance of most art shops, F&B outlets and drinking holes. Also within walking distance of the tropical Monkey Forest itself and Ubud Market. Rent a bike and one can explore even further and visit art shops with even cheaper pricing.
The staff are very courteous and polite. Breakfast provided is buffet style and excellent, eating while admiring the landscape scenery and listening to the tweeting of birds. The spread is western with some local cakes too.
One down side is that the rooms are locked with a padlocked from the outside. So if going out separately, make sure to leave key at reception lest your partner gets locked out.

Room Tip: Get a room on the upper level of the chalets. Better view.

This is not a luxury joint. There are a great many hotels and bungalows in Ubud. This is about par for the course. It is, however, relatively well located just South of the football field in the centre of Ubud on Monkey Forest Road. It is also, however, next to a celebration hall/show hall where there are daily/nightly dance shows and so gamelan music spills out for much of the evening, which is nice to hear - but not all evening, every evening - which it is. This costs it a rating circle. The resort entrace is not right off the road by through a bit of a laneway, and Monkey Forest Rd is northbound only (unless you're in a motorcycle). It is about 7 min walk South to the Moneky Forest, and about 5min walk North to the main markets. The doors to our 2-bedroom deluxe room are wood and ornate, and watch out for the step! But as lovely as they are, do not seal comepletely and hence insects (aka mosquitoes but there are worse) can enter. The washroom is marble/granite and quite basic for its generous size. It is also quite dank since the vents are simply open at the top (and hence the room is humid and warm from the outside air). The sink and mirror are actually outside in the main room next to the storage cabinet, again, basic. The main selling points for Cendana are its 2 swimming pools (one in the front by reception and one saltwater at the back near the restaurant) - both are freezing but have shallow ends with a wall for kids to play. Breakfast is included in the room price and is served buffet style at the 2-storey restaurant at the back. Do not miss their great banana pancakes or pandan pancakes (green) and thank the Dutch for introducing pannekoeks to Indonesia. The spa is at the very back of the resort and offers the usual panoply of rubs in Bali but the service is only average, along with slightly higher than average prices. There are plenty of places in town and nearby to get a massage for less (jsut walk up and down Monkey Forest road - you'll get pamphlets handed to you. In summary - a lovely, beautiful resort, with good pools, food and location but you'll have to put up with noise, some insects perhaps, and sluggish wifi. Still, a relatively good value even in high season.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room unless you like climbing stairs - all units will hear the legong music f...

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night and had a superiour room. The room, overlooking the swimmingpool next to the reception, was clean, but very basic. Hate blankets on the beds, they were not clean. More hygienic are quilts.
Wifi did not work at arrival, it did the next morning but was very poor.
Breakfast is buffetstyle and the choises were ok for us. Did not like the cats beg for food.
Missed the friendly balinese people at check in.
Ok for 1 night only.
