“Highlight of Our Honeymoon”
Reviewed 8 June 2012

I booked The Chedi Club for the first part of our Honeymoon due to the resort's universally positive reviews on TripAdvisor. After staying there for 6 nights, it's clear that this reputation is well-deserved. We stayed 3 nights in a Spa Villa and 3 nights in a One Bedroom Suite.

Service: 5/5. Our butler, Yuni, was very proactive with recommending ways that she could help enhance our stay. For example, we booked a sunrise hiking tour that departed from the hotel at 2:30am. Yuni suggested that she could arrange for a breakfast box to be prepared for us, which was definitely much appreciated as otherwise we wouldn't have had any food until hours later into our tour. In addition, Simon, the General Manager, personally introduced himself during breakfast on the first morning of our stay and also asked us for feedback about our stay before sending us off with a small gift. With just 20 rooms at the resort, the staff really gets to know you by name.

Appearance of the Property: 5/5. One of the most beautiful hotels I've ever seen with a design that's uniquely Balinese. Property is also very well maintained.

Room Quality:
Spa Villa - 5/5. Very well appointed with lots of attention to detail (such as a Bose speaker system that reached throughout the entire villa). This room included daily in-room spa services with the room rate, which were very relaxing.

One Bedroom Suite - 4.5/5. Very comfortable room. The spa villa is definitely much larger, and we were glad that we had splurged for the extra pampering for part of our trip. Only negative of the one bedroom suite is that we would have preferred that there was more outside lighting around the entrance to the room.

Location: 5/5. If you're looking for a beach holiday, then the Nusa Dua area would definitely be a better choice. However, the Ubud location of The Chedi Club was perfect for us. The resort itself is located in a peaceful, serene setting. We did a lot of tours in Bali, and The Chedi Club was a great home base, since all of our tour operators were also based out of Ubud. If we had stayed in Nusa Dua, we would have spent a lot more time in transit rather than enjoying our tours.

Food: 4.5/5. Service at the restaurant was top-notch. We stayed with the local fare throughout our trip and were not disappointed. My only comment is that at dinner you're asked whether you'd prefer sparkling or still water. As they use a brand imported from Europe, each bottle costs 5 USD. However, when we politely declined, they would always bring us the complimentary regular filtered water that they used for breakfast, which was more than adequate.

Overall: 5/5 - truly amazing!

We spent our last 3 days of a 2 week vacation in Bali at the Chedi club. There were many places on Trip Advisor that looked inviting, but we chose the Chedi based on reviews and what they offer. Sure glad we did. The first part of our trip was hectic with a different adventure everyday, so we really wanted some relaxation and a chance to really see Ubud. The minute we entered the resort, we could feel the tranquility. The staff were outstanding, always saying hello and calling us by name, and our Butler, Yuni, was amazing. She was there when we needed her, but never too intrusive. She remembered it was going to be our 35th wedding anniversary, and when we returned from one of our many hiking and shopping trips to Ubud, she had created a beautiful flower and animal display saying Happy Anniversary and a decadent chocolate cake. We took advantage of the Yoga, and it was one of the best, in a small studio overlooking the rice paddies. The breakfasts were amazing, as well as the one dinner we had. The happy hour by the pool, with free drinks was also very enjoyable. We were unable to rent one of the villas' with a pool, but we loved our outdoor shower, ( i think i miss that the most). Thank you Simon, you have a great place there, say hi to your new family member (the puppy! is it Kona?)

I spent my 40th birthday at The Chedi Club. Being a hotelier myself I'm very hard to please and it hard to relax in hotels. The staff were simply outstanding and our butler could not do enough for us, but also judged what we wanted from him very well and was never too intrusive but just a phone call away.

The grounds of the hotel are immaculate and far larger than their website makes it appear. You really do feel a sense of space and tranquility here and the only thing you hear at night is the crickets and frogs - wonderful.

For a special occasion, book the romantic table in the middle of the padi field with your pathway lit by candles.

We booked a one-bedroom villa complete with private pool, outside bathtub and a wonderful spacious and airy villa. The main pool was also a tranquil and relaxing place.

Food in the restaurant also excellent and again, the staff could not do enough. They even made our own favourite cocktail from Europe and I believe they've kept the recipe to add to their collection!

We will definitely be back. Thanks again Simon and all the team at The Chedi Club.

This was our 2nd stop on our honeymoon. We both love to travel. Normally we love to go explore new areas, museums, restaurants, meet people, etc... We never wanted to leave this hotel. It really was just lovely. It felt like you were an owner or a part of the family.

The hotel is set up in about 20 different villas spaced throughout the ground. After several days it felt like you had a house in a community. Albeit a community that is elegantly designed, tastefully decorated and skillfully manicured. The grounds are beautiful. Paths run around streams, gardens, ponds, statues, pools, fountains and rice fields.

The artwork in the hotel is exquisite. The dining building is in the middle of a rice field. It is open air (although I think they can be closed if there is bad weather). There is an Indonesian menu and a western menu. I always had the Indonesian menu and was never disappointed. My husband went back and forth between the 2. We never had a bad meal. And the view! Morning or night, you can't go wrong, but to sit in the quiet (except for faint sounds of traditional Balinese music being played on a bamboo xylophone-type instrument) outdoors and watch the sunset over the rice field as workers walk with torches to light the lanterns around you.

The staff are friendly and dedicated. They pay attention to detail and treat you as a family member. The GM greeted us several times and always remembered our names. Our butler always had wonderful suggestions and helpful tips (we visited when President Obama was there so he knew what roads/museums were closed when and helped us to plan for it). He always left sweet/funny notes or rose petals or animal towels for us. Fun and quirky and just a reminder of how much detail they put into this hotel.

We had a pool villa. We are still plotting on how to move into one permanently! The pool is long enough to swim laps and comes with a sort of "waterfall" (more like a statue water spout) but the sound is relaxing. The villa's beds were comfortable and beautiful. There was a fireplace (we never used it but Supri assured us it worked). There is an outdoor sunken tub which I mostly used while my husband loved the modern, all glass shower with it's powerful spray. The villa comes with speakers inside and out so we were able to plug in our ipod/iphones and listen (but not loudly) to music. They also provided some relaxing cds as well. The room has water, complimentary sodas and liquor. They offer complimentary yoga, afternoon tea and happy hour too.

My words really do not do justice to this place. A lovely place that rejuvenates the soul, but it also so strategically located to museums, shops, artisans, and sites. The only problem is you may not want to leave this wonderful hotel to see them!

Room Tip: Pool Villas are lovely!

5* service from the very minute you arrive. Our Personal buttler was amazing and super attentive. The restaurant was great. They have a cigar bar and the chef had a long and informative conversation with my husband about the different cigars. The hotel is in the middle of the rice fields which makes for a perfect breakfast view and yoga spot. The finishing touch that really stayed with me was the package of rice from their own rice field that they gave us upon departure. I made a dish with it at home and got to bring the scent back with me. My only regret is that we did not stay longer....We divided our Stay between the Alila Ubud, Alila Uluwatu and the Chedi. If I could do it all over again, I would only stay at the Chedi and Alila Uluwatu. If you're looking to stay in Ubud, book this hotel right away
