Beautiful villa! Enjoyed our stay! Made' made breakfast every morning, kept villa tidy and helped us with planning our Bali adventures! Putu Karat our driver was outstanding, punctual, and also helped with the logistics of finding our way around Bali!
A wonderful, relaxing stay!
Thank you! Steve, Made' & Putu

Till we meet again!

“Tired & in need of repairs & renovation”
Reviewed 19 December 2015 for a stay in November 2015

Have stayed with this company before and villas have been amazing. Villa Sofia is in desperate need of repairs and a face lift. It is tired looking and not nearly as nice as their other villas. Stairs to 2nd floor are extremely steep and are open to the weather so slippery and dangerous when wet. Top floor roof leaks considerably in the bathroom so had to wade to toilet. Both bathrooms are dirty, mouldy and stained and need renovation. Downstairs kitchen is separate from residence so if it's raining you will get wet. Kitchen needs a good clean!! House boy needs instruction as to how to clean properly (comes and fluffs around daily and does the bare minimum) as we seen no cleaning products used in bathrooms in our 3 week stay. He waters down everything, hand wash, detergent and continues to use an absolutely filthy wash up cloth in kitchen even after I asked him to change it. He reuses the mop water (really!), leaves mop in bucket with the used water in the storage room and will use it daily until he has to change. He is very pleasant but also very lazy, and only seems to understand English when it suits him. There is a building site directly next door which is noisy and irritating considering you are here for a rest, I am really disappointed with this villa, I have rented 4 villas (Helaconia, Palm Kuning, Timpal Timpal and Sofia) in the last 9 months through Steve Castley and Private Ubud Villas and have never been disappointed until now.

Management Response
22 Dec 2015
I had a pre-departure meeting with Sharon, where she detailed all the above and more. Some of her complaints were justified, but many certainly were not. This property was built about 20 years ago and has been totally refurbished. Most guests appreciate the design as it suits people who like 2 kitchens, 2 living area and 2 dining areas. Our website accurately describes this villa and there are ample photos for prospective clients to view and get a real idea.
We pride ourselves on service at Private Ubud Villas and have hundreds of positive reviews on TripAdvisor that prove this. We are in the service industry and in the business of ensuring our clients have a great holiday. Yes we have problems at times, but they are attended to immediately, once we are informed. It is unfortunate that Sharron waited until the last day of her 21 day stay to advise that she was unhappy. Had I been notified on the first, second or third day, I could have fixed the problems and ensured that the rest of her holiday was spectacular. I thank Sharron for her comments and will work with Made, the villa staff on the ones that are true. Steve Castley, for Private Ubud Villas.

“Convenient location, but noisy.”
Reviewed 25 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

This villa is in a prime spot, not too far from the main road, but far enough to block the traffic noise from the main road. It is as advertised; perfect for two couples with two large ensuite bedrooms and kitchenette and living area on both floors and the upstairs area has an L shaped balcony with great views over the immediate area of Penestanan. The only sharing necessary is with the pool and entry, so there is plenty of privacy as and if required. The only downfall for us was that a new villa was being constructed right next door and that this generated a lot of noise during the day. However, peace was restored at night and it was very pleasant for sleeping without interruption. We noted meanwhile, that the villa next door was due for completion soon after our departure, so noisy days shouldn't be a problem for future guests.

“Pleasant stay with extended family”
Reviewed 10 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We stayed four night at Villa Sofia with a grandparent and two young children. It's a two-story villa and grandma stayed upstairs (she was fine with stairs but keep them in mind for the very young and old). It's a lovely villa, nicely decorated throughout and the kids loved playing in the pool. We had a nice big TV with lots of dvds for relaxing. Our villa girl made us lovely banana pancakes each morning.

Villa Sofia is located just a few minutes walk from Penestanan, the outskirts of Ubud. Lots of cafes, restaurants, shops and spas within walking distance. Eve Spa has good treatments and Made's Warung has awesome food surrounded by rice paddies.

Our villa is set back from the main road so you can only reach it by foot. Don't expect complete silence as mopeds are using the path outside the villa, but it didn't bother us. And because of the rural setting, expect roosters to coocadoodle in the early morning hours - bring ear plugs!

This is the second villa we stayed in managed by Steve Castley of Private Ubud Villas. We are were happy with the accommodation and service, so we would recommend any of his villas for a stay in Ubud.
