“Great holiday”
Reviewed 23 July 2012

After a noisy, crowded time spent at Kuta we were looking forward to the peace and quiet of Sanur and we were not disappointed. This hotel was an oasis of calm, no street noise, rowdy tourists or smell. Very varied guests from all nationalities which we liked. Excellent setting right on the beach, breakfast looking at the sea each morning. Clean comfortable room, we got a garden view deluxe which still gave us glimpses of the sea.

We liked its proximity to restaurants and shops on the main road just outside the hotel gates, check out Tropical Restaurant very close to the gates, excellent food, lovely surrounds and our bill was 225000 IDR for two entrees and two mains and drinks.

My partner really liked getting massaged by the ladies who had their stalls overlooking the beach, cost per massage about Aus $10, very good at doing nails there as well, undercoat and top coat and pretty little design. Be careful to always bargain before hand, I forgot this golden rule with a lady who had a shop off the beach and ended up paying 3 times what I should have done for nails and back massage.

We loved this hotel and will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Go deluxe as some superiors overlook the parking area at the front of the hotel.

The hotel was in an amazing setting right on the beach. Unfortunately getting a lounger on the beach was a bit of an issue because people seem to claim them really early in the morning! Luckily we learnt our lesson on the first day and since we don't sleep in a lot we managed to get good beach loungers on the second day. The two pool areas are fabulous and provide lots of area for the guests to spread out so the place doesn't seem overcrowded.

Both nights we ate at the hotel restaurants. The first night we ate at Basilico Italian Pavilion which was delicious. The second night we ate at Peppers. The food at Peppers were amazing although it was expensive it was well worth the money. Left feeling very satisfied

Many of the visitors to the hotel were middle aged Europeans so for me and my boyfriend (21 and 23) we felt a little out of place. This didn't really bother us too much and we only stayed for two nights so we enjoyed each others company. But it may be a helpful tip for young couples thinking about booking here

The hotel is in a great location, but as has been suggested by many others it is a little old and tired looking in places, particularly the older wings. Our room was located on the third floor which for non smokers is the only option. Smoking in Bali is permitted in dining areas and The Sanur Beach Hotel along with many others does not provide and area to eat in where you are not surrounded by fellow diners puffing away before, after and even during their meals - disgusting! It's ironic that the Australian tourists who would never do this in Australia seem to think that the health warnings don't apply when in Bali. They have the right to smoke but it would be nice to be provided and area where you can eat your breakfast without clouds of toxic fumes ruining the experience. Sadly Sanur Beach Hotel does not see this as important. Our rooms were adequate - bathroom small and cramped however upgraded with new tapware etc so perfectly ok. Mattress incredibly hard and a relief to say goodbye to after 5 nights of back ache. Hotel gardens are very pleasant and the shuttle to Hardy's very handy. Staff are on the whole very helpful - some touting for day trips with the endless questions of 'how long are you here', 'where are you from', 'how many times to Bali?', ' have you made a program for your stay' quickly followed with offers to take you here and there on their day off. Friendly at first and got a bit annoying by the end of our stay. Restaurants in the hotel - not sure why I would want to eat pizza and pasta when in Bali but no doubt many would. Similarly the Argentinian theme seemed a little bizzare to us - but hey each to their own. Breakfast - I've had worse and a whole lot better. Juice is concentrate - why not fresh? Buffet was adequate but cramped and crowded serivce areas make the whole experience feel a little like a boarding house. It seems a buffet brings out the worst manners in some with pushing and shoving occuring and plates piled high with food only to be left uneaten. It seemed strange to us that none of the guests really looked that relaxed or smiled at each other - peculiar for Bali. The confrence held during our stay meant breakfast was even more crowded and competitive - spoilt it for us to be honest. Airconditoning in room was poor and contributed to bad sleep quality.

We stayed at Sanur Beach Hotel in our second week in Bali. Having read advice we booked the larger deluxe rooms that provided more room and large balcony. The view from the room was nice overlooking the well kept gardens and pool areas. Our room was clean and comfortable although additional power sockets would have been handy as would access to WiFi in the rooms. WiFi could only be accessed by the pool or in the restaurant. The two pools were the highlight as we were travelling as on of three families with very active teenage kids. The pools provided basketball hoops and nets and the size of the pools accommodated for everyone with no issues about getting in peoples way. The service was not as high as our previous accommodation in Legian but the price difference makes up for that. It would have been great to have better service in the pool areas. The breakfast provided lots of choices including eggs, waffles, pastries, cereals, fruits etc but the dining area often felt very crowded. The extended breakfast hours were beneficial. We used the spa service on our last day and the girls were great. The spa area is lovely. The location and value for money make this hotel a good choice for families.

Room Tip: The Deluxe Garden view rooms cost slighter more than the superior but well worth the upgrade for spa...

Can't wait to return,Have been staying at this Hotel since 1984.. The service is always impeccable from the moment you step into the lobby,My husband and i last stayed in room (501). Being as i was totally spoiled I will not settle for less,.The Dining rooms through-out I would give a 9/10 as is the service of the staff at the pool and Beachside activities kiosk..It was a special occasion on our last visit, and the Hotel took note, and made sure the day didn't pass by without acknowledging it,.Came back to our room after breakfast to a beautiful bouquet of flowers, also a gateau, with plates forks and serviettes. What a wonderful Surprise ..I loved the fact that they had wifi,as I have an e'reader, and found it extremely handy.being able to download books onto it..My Husband, and myself enjoy walking, and would occasionally walk along the foreshore to Hardys, and catch the Shuttle back",What a service'"They think of everything..I would definetly recommend this Hotel..Can't wait to return,Oh also Garuda Airlines is the only airlines way to travel to Bali ( 10/10 to them..) I have travelled with Garuda to England with a stop-over in Bali alone, also with Family/Friends and can't fault it..
