Owner description: This small museum at the north end of Sanur Beach evokes a time of innocence and beauty before the introduction of relatively recent laws banning "immodest dress." Even more impressive than the paintings by the Belgian artist of the young Balinese dancer he married and her friends is the small mansion in which the art and artifacts are housed: a lovely example of Balinese architecture decorated with finely carved and gilded wooden shutters.

So Mr Mayeur, a Belgian artist came to Bali. He hooked up with a 15 year old dancer, Ni Polok, and 2 of her girl friends. For 3 years they lived with him and "modeled" for him and his art. After 3 years he married Ni and she continued to model for him and inspire his work. After moving to Sanur he build a beach side home and crated beautiful art work inside it. Soon it became museum worthy. After his death in Belgium where he'd gone for treatment of his ear cancer, his wife continued to live in the home until her death in 1985. It is still a beautiful museum but has seen better days. It's a nice respite from the beach and the constant hagglers

Just before leaving Sanur we checked the things we might have forgotten. It's a nice walk to the museum right above the seaside. The touching love story of Mr. Mayeur and the young native woman, who became his wife and muse is worthwhile to see in his art. Not very well visible in the dark rooms, but nice. And the garden is beautiful.

This place was interesting but I would call it a Museum. It is the home of a french artist and his obsession with his much younger wife. Lots of paintings of her and of seascapes in their traditional home setting. Only took us twenty minutes to see it all.

There are the wonderful paints and drawings of Le Mayeur in such the bueatiful Balinese House.

But the condition of Museum is so poor. The protection glasses are reflect a lot of light, so I can't see the picture clearly. There is NO humidity control system. So the paint will not last that long... so pity!!

I think, the ticket is far to keep the museum in good condition.

Priceless collections of painter Le Mayuer but unfortunately they are displayed in a deterioting building with inappropriate way of display. The museum needs a serious upgrade.
