“A River side Paradise”

Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary
Ranked #286 of 767 things to do in West Bengal
Attraction details

This is a Bird sanctuary located alongside NH 34 and Kulik River in the outskirts of beautiful small town Raiganj, West Bengal. It's a few days I had managed a vacation for a shorter period from my very busy corporate schedule and took my family for the wonderland.

The government guest house there is fully covered by various types of trees which you can access from the sprawled balcony with a great view of beautifully carved garden where there is a dedicated kids playing zone.

The speciality of the sanctuary is more than a lakh birds directly flown from Siberia which comes every year for six months in this season, breeds and again fly back to Siberia.

We were welcomed by rain this time which we have enjoyed to the fullest by drenching and dancing with the birds, took a dip into the refreshingly cold river of Kulik.

One more amazing thing that we will remember is Robi's tea stall which is a must visit in the evening.

The worst thing was we had to return but took an oath to return soon.

It was a good experience. It located from 3-4 kilometers away from the Raiganj town. You can just walk to the forest. The way provides a good view of village life. Though NH-34 Highway is not at all safe for walking . Its a rather narrow road for a highway. Now the forest is good, You can find lots of Open-bill storks here in November. There are small green streams and bridges. We also find a fox here :) . Its really a good place to watch common birds like kingfisher, Jungle babbler, barbet.
But now a days its becoming a picnic spot rather than a sanctuary. The wildlife will not come here if they feel disturbed :(
