“Excellent view - good potential but a lot more needed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2012

Stayed at the hotel for 1 night in August. The room initially allotted had a filthy bathroom. Asked for a change but it took some time so thumbs down to checkin. The view was just awesome from the hotel. The dinner was average and only vegetarian. We were promised live entertainment but there was none except for a black cat running around in the restaurant. It freaked out my wife and on asking the hotel staff about it, they said it comes often. Staff, though friendly, was slow and not really alert.

Beds are not comfortable and someone taller than 6ft would not be able to fit in. So thumbs down to sleep quality. Breakfast was decent.

What this hotel needs is an overall quality revamp. There is just so much potential with the excellent view and the close proximity to the Mall. Clearly the asking price is not commensurate to the overall quality. I would love to stay here again and could perhaps pay more; however, the hotel needs to pull their socks up.

Room Tip: Valley view rooms on the ground floor.

The hotel doesn't promise good service as compared to few years back.If compared with room tarrifs of the hotel,it is not a good value for money. The only advantage is its location which is excellent.Rooms facing valley view are good one.Rooms other than valley view rooms do not give any view at all.

Room Tip: Stay only if you get rooms facing valley view

This property was managed by Carlson Hotels, under their Park Plaza brand till some years ago. Currently, its under private management. Which translates into poor service.

The redeeming factor about the hotel is its location. It's located right opposite the "Picture Palace" end of Mall Road. And since vehicles are not allowed on Mall road, you have to lug you luggage to hotels which are further down mall road. For this hotel, you just have a three minute downhill walk. Its a small hotel, roughly 40 odd rooms which means its not overrun with people during high season. There is a small garden which has great views of the valley.

And that's where the positives end. The rooms need an overhaul, paint is peeling off the walls, upholstery is tattered. Bathrooms while clean, need major repairs. I had breakfast and lunch at the hotel, which wasn't the greatest. They do not do À la carte, all meals are buffets at their only dimly lit restaurant opposite the reception.

Wifi Interet is Rs.200 an hour and most of the times, it doesn't work. You could however sneak into a small room under the spiral staircase, where they have one computer which has decent connectivity. For some reason, data cards don't really work in the hotel, so you are dependent on the hotels internet connection.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the valley are the ones to opt for, specially the ones which are on the ground floo...

The best part of this 4 star property in the queen of hills is: They accept & work on client feedbacks promptly. Look out for a plaza room, with a breathtaking view of the doon valley. Include dinner in the stay package to taste finer continental cuisine whipped up by Chef Rajeev & team. Special mention: Herbed rice, Lamb Goulash & Fruit cream. Opt for Devil's chicken, Kung pao Lamb, if you are a chinese food lover. Situated the most conveniently opposite picture palace, and very close to the taxi stand, you can drag your strolleys to this hotel. The Mall is 100 steps up, & you can explore the famous Camel's back road by feet, within minutes. Have your tea/drink from the balcony, to get rejuvenated instantly. Breakfast is served till 11 am, so you don't need to rush. The GM, Harsh Semwal, is ever smiling & addressing all your minutest service requests, executed by his team. Settle for a 3N/4D package at least, to enjoy the stay.

Room Tip: Ask for Plaza room.
