As they say in America it amounts for almost everything. Right on the ganga between ganga aarti and the burning ghats
The ganga is visible from the restaurant and most rooms. The restaurant is actually very good. Rajesh hope the spelling is right because he deserves all the respect in the world. He is very patient. Is ALWAYS THERE TO HELP. Kind spirited manager. He alone makes it worthwhile. Beds good English television channels.ac.

My travel agent booked this hotel for me. The location of this hotel is absolutely wonderful, and apparently that's the only reason to stay here. I stayed here for three nights and it constantly felt like staying in a non-welcoming motel without a soul. Service at the reception desk was bearable. In the restaurant it was non-existent though. Restaurant staff seemed uninterested and almost angry to be working there. No hint of a smile to find anywhere on the staff member's faces, and just rude in the contact with guests. Surprisingly tasteless food. The room on itself was ok. But apparently after arrival I needed to make my bed myself. Okay, I can do that. But the digusting thing was the blanket. It probably used to be white and clean, but that seemed many years ago. The blanket was of a greyish colour completed with big stains of unknown origin. The hot water was hot enough, but taking a shower left a swimming pool in the bathroom due to the lack of a floor division. There were no floor towels available, so I needed to use my bath towel to dry things up a bit. The amount of toilet paper was barely enough for one toilet visit. Happy to have brought my own... To be honest the great location is not worth to stay here. I am sure Varanasi has some more pleasant places to offer.

When I checked into the Alka Hotel I had been having a rough time in India, and Alka was a good antidote. The rooms were clean, and the beds were comfortable. Most importantly, the staff at reception were very helpful in terms of organising taxis for me, recommending local places. This means a lot as it is very tough getting advice on the street, as people always want to sell something or get a tip (I hate to say this, but this was my experience consistently). Also I had a really nice driver who I met at the hostel, took me to Sarnath and back for a good price, and also to the airport.

Finally, the location cannot be faulted. It is right above a Ghat on the Ganga river. If possible, try to arrive before it's dark, but if you have google maps you can find the place easily, and there are signs on the walls to the Alka hostel.

Overall, a stress-free experience and genuinely helpful people here!

Room tip: this hotel has 'downstairs' rooms which are underground, so if you want a view or a window, specify.

Really well situated very near the ghats (Meer) this place is very close to Daswamedh and Manikarnika, the two main ghats. The staff are very courteous and extremely helpful. Special thanks to Mukesh aka Munna Bhaiyya for being so knowledgeable and helpful. Overall we loved this place and will visit again for sure.

First tip is about Varanasi not just the hotel - If you are not into what Varanasi is about then you probably shouldn't go - if you do then embrace what it is - an amazing place.

Great location on the Ganga - short walk to evening ceremony.
- Have transfer bus - book it (from airport or railway) - otherwise you will be frustrated trying to get through the maze of laneways.
- Have own boat - it is not luxury (but none of them are) - save the hassle - the hotel one is good value & you will have the same view.
- Have own tour Manager - Manu - Amazing - listen to him & take his advice. took a few trips;-
1. walking tour with guide (Shiva - not the god but a very passionate & knowledgeable person, born in Varanassi - good value
2. Day driving tour (in hotel bus with guide Shiva again) - extremely well worth the money
Just a tip - the rooms are A/C however as is the way in India & some of Europe this means cooling not heating. We asked for heater - it was basic but made our room comfortable.
Restaurant is simple but more than adequate & fair prices - friendly staff.
Will definitely return

Room tip: River View
