“Evening Ceremony on the Ghat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2012

The Ghat is centraly located and is a place to sit and watch people practicing their Hindu faith..shaving their heads, bathing in the Ganges, consulting Hindu priests, hawkers selling all sorts of items. Best ghat for viewing teh eveneing ganges aatri ceremony....saw the ceremony from a boat on the river and the next evening viewed it on the ghat itself. Gety there about 6:45 PM (18:45) to get a good seat. My hotel, Rashmi Guest House, was located close to the ghat so I spent some time enjoying what it had to offer.

“Famous for its Aarti”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2012

It is one of the most scenic Ghats of Varanasi famous for its Aarti (especially Evening one). One can reach here by taking auto from Cantt railway station upto Godowlia (Rs.10 if you share, time taken about 20-30 minutes). And from Godowlia, can take Paddle Ricksaw (fix the rate first) OR walk (15-20 minutes walking). (in the way to ghat is famous Kashi Vishwanath temple). Once you will reach the Ghat, only then you will experience divine power and calmness, which has attracted people from all over the world.

“Awesome experience!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2012

We visited the ghat at night - caught the last bit of the spectacular Aarti show. (It is from 7-8pm nightly.)
The river is eerily smooth and serene, with only a grey whisp of shore visible on the opposite bank. There are lots of boats with lots of tourists, but it doesn't feel too crowded.
After the Aarti, we went further up the river to where the cremation of dead bodies take place - this was quite surreal, as you actually see this happening, yet it's not disturbing... The history behind it all is fascinating - our guide (Deepak!) did a great job!
I highly recommend this - a must-do in Varanasi!
