“Ganga arati was disappointing”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

This is probably the most popular ghat of Benaras with Kashi Vishwanath Mandir being just a minute away. The road entrance is very very congested with I finding hardly any space for my XS body. Being the most popular, it is more commercial too. Ganga arati here is famous. Everyone seems to go ga-ga over it, but with pre-recoreded chants and bhajans playing out on a cracky loudspeaker, we were not exactly impressed.

“A real “Incredible India” experience”
Reviewed 23 February 2012

Neither Agra nor Delhi but vibrant Varanasi affords me an authentic insight of India famed for crowds, colors and Holy Ganges. Perfectly, Dasaswamedh Ghat offers all at its best.

Located as the central point of Ganges, the ghat is invariably packed with local and foreign persons from first light till late evening. Touring here, you cannot miss colorful souvenirs sold on small alleys leading to the ghat or roof top cafés along the river bank to catch Varanasi panorama from the above. An afternoon of street massage or Hindu themed musical ceremony around Dasaswamedh Ghat is highly recommended to blend with the local ambiance.

Last but not least, a boat ride on River Ganges is simply the best way to observe another Varanasi of Incredible India. Approximately INR 20 – 40 per person (albeit touts may quote up to INR200), the 20 – 30 min excursion showcases an awe inspiring Holy River of sacred bathing, of praying, of livelihood and of blessed cremations.

Reviewed 17 February 2012

dasaswamedh is the main ghat in varanasi, because of that its a huge attraction for everyone. its worth a visit but also is really really loud all the time. its really easy to meet people there and have great cnversations, you can also find boat rides across the ganges there which is really fun.
