The ghat is famous for the daily program Subah-e-banaras held before sinrise and the morning ganga aarti. Aarti is also held in the evening at Assi ghat. Less crowded ghat

Get up early (before sunrise) to see the daily religious ceremony that begins around 5:30AM. It is free and there are chairs for spectators. It is a great photo/video opportunity.

Other than this early morning activity, not much goes on at the Assi Ghat which sits at the northern end of the long string of ghats along the river. Afterwards you can choose to catch a boat ride downriver from here but I've found it much more interesting to walk. The boat ride is not cheap considering you are only floating down river for several hundred yards.

Assi ghats are the beginning of the ghats and where we stayed. Lots to do and boats and restaurants available etc. Easy to get in and out of with taxi. Other parts of Varanasi require walking the narrow streets to your accommodation. Recommended.

The two things I loved about the Assi Ghat were : (1) the evening aarti & (2) the Subah-e-Banaras program. We got a chance to participate in the aarti from up close & it remains one of my fondest memories ever.
The Subah-e-Banaras program has helped talent get showcased & also helped in the restoration & maintenance of the ghat. This is the last ghat on the Ganges. A good no. of food options are available. Good place to spend an evening!
