“Stroll through the shopping districts”
Reviewed 20 December 2011

We started at one end of Chowk and walked to the other, browsing chikan work, looking at embroidery threads and flosses, itar and shoes. There were only a few beggars - more at the entry than in Chowk itself - and the merchants were willing to bargain. Some were also more than willing to show off their craft, such as hammering silver foil or embroidering chikan work. Definitely stop at the original(!) Tunday Kebab, closer to the south end than the north - no sign, no labels, but the only kebab joint on the street. The food is not worth missing!

“Congested Yet place of importance”
Reviewed 12 November 2011

Yes this place is too congested , badly managed roads , old expired buildings , always in news because of communal problems but still being a part of old lucknow and here few institutions like King george medical university and many historical parks and buildings are nearby.
who ever goes there please do not complaint regarding mismanaged traffic or other things.
just visit the places nearby

“Exploring cultures? Then do not miss !!”
Reviewed 9 November 2011

True soul of a city lies in its old town and its bazaars. The Chowk at Lucknow is the true spirit of this very cultural city. Try the old eateries like Tunday Kabab for its Galouti's , Radhey Lal's sweets - the Malai Gilori, lassi, petha mewa gilori's are a real treat. Radhey Shyam across the street is not the same and best avoided. Another speciality is the Malai Makhan, which is a unique souffle made by just milk in cooler climates. This I am told is available only in this area and a must try. Other foods to try in the Chowk area are Lassi, Kulchas, Paan, special Chaai, boiled water chestnuts, kachori and ofcourse chaat.
Rows n rows of stores selling chikan work clothes are a pleasure to browse through. One can find various clothes for children, boys and girls, men and women. Also many workshops where this special embroidey is done are around the chowk and also zardozi embroidery which is done using a golden thread is done around this area.
We were there during Eid and the atmosphere in the chowk with its sale of goats was a memorable experience.
People are generally very polite and helpful and stores do bargain a little.

“Walking tours and Chikan”
Reviewed 3 November 2011

Ask at Lucknow Homestay or at the tourist office about the three to four hour walking tour of chowk district. You'll learn a huge amount about the history of Lucknow such as the role the city played in the quit India campaign. Then why not stay on afterwards and acquaint yourself with Lucknows beautiful Chikan stitching.
