“Good room, food a little expensive”
Reviewed 12 March 2012

The room was great, big with a large bathroom and hot water. The room also had a balcony (but no seats which was a shame). They gave me an early breakfast so that I could go to the Taj Mahal early. There is also wifi and a TV in the room, both with fairly good connections.

Room Tip: I was at the front of the hotel in a room called 'Lily', it was really lovely!

We stayed here after reading all the good reviews on Trip Advisor. The rooms were great. The food was good too! However, the staff (his name was Shiv) was very rude. He was not happy that we had booked a taxi from a travel agent rather than Taj Homestay. Always trying to make money; refused to help us find a travel agent and insisted that we book through the Taj Homestay travel agent.

It's a great place to stay but do not use them for taxis and autos - they overcharge a lot. Just get in touch with any travel agent outside. Also, if you ask them for auto rickshaws, you end up paying a lot more than the normal autos.

We requested for a taxi from Agra-Fatehpur Sikri-Bharatpur. They quoted Rs. 1800. We finally got one from a local travel agent for Rs. 1100 (inclusive of tolls and parking).

The wifi only works near the reception area. Might work in the rooms with the balconies as they are right above the reception.

Room Tip: Request for rooms with a balcony.

Our arrival was interesting: on the good side we did arrive before the official check in time. On the other hand they insisted that the price we had been quoted and thought we had actually paid over the internet was only for one person when there were, in fact two of us.

This went on for some time aggravated by the fact that no-one, repeat no-one had any more than a smattering of English. It was only my insistence that we contact our booking website that stopped this, despite showing them all of the paperwork

The food was OK, rather like an not very good Indian restaurant in Britain. Incidentally we were the only Brits in the Hotel so the food was a novelty to our fellow Europeans. They thought it was better than we did. They did a particularly good Dahl Makhani but that was only made once a week so when it ran out, it ran out. It wasn’t that cheap either!

The hotel bits that we used were clean and the room servicing was OK. What really threw us was the defective hot water supplies. This is where the Hotel staff’s lack of English, ignorance of any customer service concepts and the management’s refusal to get a plumber in until day two really came together. We had a succession of hotel staff all coming up to twiddle and fiddle. Hopeless!

All in all a pretty average stay in a average hotel. And it was nowhere near any decent bars or restaurants

Room Tip: go somewhere else

Our room was clean and big with balcony. The staff was very, very helpful. They took their time to discuss what trip options may be best for us. Most importantly, they were not pressing us to buy anything at any time. Unfortunately, one of the taxi drivers they organized for us was the opposite. He was not friendly at all and tried to bring us to people who sold touristy junk (because he gets provisions for bringing tourists there).

Sister B & B to the Delhi Incredible Home Stay, but without the nice people. Mattress hard and HWS dodgy. General cleanliness was okay, but short on toilet rolls. No WIFI in the room. In general, it was okay for the price, but not memorable in any way.
