Stayed in Aman Guesthouse for 3 nights as a base for Taj Mahal though if that's all you're doing in Agra you only need 1 night or 2 max. The homestay is in good location and has a lovely rooftop to chill in away from the hustle & bustle of Agra. The guesthouse is very clean and all areas are decorated and furnished to a high standard (especially for india).
Staff were all nice and very helpful booking stuff and onward train tickets. They will arrange for car or tuk tuk to attractions. We chose tuk tuk to go to Taj Mahal which picks you up, drops you off and picks you up again to take you to a fort Etc. The driver is Ricky. We called him Tricky Ricky because, although a bubbly funny guy, he drove us to a back street marble shop which we had no intention of going to. Here it's all very hidden behind a blank facade with loads of men sitting around inside, but you're swiftly shown them making marble stuff then into the showroom to buy from a large selection of ornaments, tables, lights, plates etc. We had no intention of buying anything and left.
Tricky Ricky was obviously not so bubbly because he obviously gets commission from any purchases you make and on this occasion he got nothing.
He changed completely!
This is obviously a scam to earn money from you so be warned.
Aman Guesthouse should be aware of Ricky's tac tics!!!
Food options in the area are varied..we ate at 3 of the well reviewd restaurant's 50 yards from the guest house..'Good Vibes', Bamboo Cafe' and 'Bob Marleys'...none of which were anything special; Edible but all a bit dirty, but then it was Agra and it's pretty grim everywhere there apart from the oasis of the Taj Mahal. My advice..travel in, stay a night, get up early and see the Taj Mahal and then move on.
