Location of hotel is mind blowing, on the top of the hill.
I like Breakfast most.
Service provided in hotel are good one.
One more I want to mention is Dinning and lobby area is big one.
That I like most.

The hotel is located about 4-5 Kms from the main city, which i personally liked. The view is very good as it sits on top of a hill by itself. However, moving around there is a little difficult, specially after 5 PM.
The service was reasonable. Rooms were ok, neat and clean but nothing fancy.
I liked the buffet breakfast, the dosa prepared was awesome!

Overall, if one is looking for a reasonable comfortable trip, and not the luxuries associated with resorts, then this is a good place to be in.

The trip to ooty is picturesque and beautiful. The monarch hotel adds to the same experience. Located at quite a height. It is little away from the main market. You can still manage to walk down to market but it will be a bit of a walk. The cool breeze keeps flowing through the corridors and they have a beautiful garden. The beauty of the hills can be enjoyed from the rooms of the hotel. Hospitality is good but they could have improved little more on mannerism and sophistication. In the front of gate there is tree plantation which is another beauty. The hotel provides the trips to the city on the reasonable prices. Kings and Queens rooms for which they charge quite substantially, definitely gives a royal feeling. 3-4 Days is maximum to stay in ooty and the hotel becomes a good place to stay. Food is descent if not great though the breakfast is usually good in which they offer some south indian dishes, omlets etc.

I had booked this hotel through a travel website - looked decent there, much better than the others in the same price range. And they made a good pitch about it being perched at the top of Ooty. I could not put two and two together and realise the disadvantages. Lesson learnt - if there is a deal too good to be true, read the fine print, check the reviews elsewhere.

The hotel is great on various counts - mind you nothing much wrong with that at all, apart from the 3Ls( location, location and location) that make a hotel great to the guests, and profitable to owners (Mithun da- i understand in this case). Well the vistas from the hotel are great, but then i had more than that on agenda for a 3 day vacation

The hotel is practically unapproachable on foot from the lake - a big hindrance if you love walks in hill stations like i do. The hotel cab charged 150 for the drop -too steep for the distance. They do have a free coach every hour or so to some pints, but could never use it and doubt it actually was hourly. I was there around Christmas and wanted to attend the minidght mass, but simply could not due to trouble in getting back.

The effect of poor business has also started showing on hotel services - the facilities like indoor games, gym etc are poorly maintained and service has become quite bad. the room still seems in order and not much wrong on that front - quite delightful, if i remember correctly.

Since its usually offered on discount, i still think its far superior to the alternatives, but stay only if you plan to drive down to Ooty.

Stayed here for 4 nightsin feb 2010 as part of a four week self drive tour of S.E. India.

The hotel is in a lovely location in the hills above Ooty with great views down to the town and across the mountains but you really need transport if you are staying here as it is a long up hill journey from Ooty. The hotel has its own taxi.

We stayed in the Kings rooms. Spacious with enclosed balcony. furniture a little tired but rooms well equipped with comfy beds. fridge. tea/ coffee making facilities, TV and heater, Ample parking ,no wireless internet . Indian food is the best bet in the restuarant where the staff were attentive and obliging. Feb is low season for the hill stations so we got a good discount.
