We stayed here for two nights on an Intrepid tour and everyone on the tour would have prefered never to have stayed here. There was nothing in this hotel that surprised me as I have stayed at a number like it since I first visited India in 1993 but it is really time that places like this ceased to exist.
Firstly, the service. Well there were plenty of staff to provide customer service; they were lounging around everywhere doing nothing. We had no problems with the servicing of our room as it simply did not happen, even though we left our key at Reception all day. Another couple in our party returned to the hotel in the afternoon and asked for their key. They were told to wait in the lobby as their room was being cleaned. After waiting some while they went to their room to find that no-one was cleaning, it had not been cleaned and no-one could tell them where their key was.
Secondly the lack of maintenance. When we got to our room the sink tap in the bathroom was not dripping, it was pouring. Amazingly we got the manager to look at it, in his nice neat suit. He muttered something about water pressure and flushed the toilet to prove his point as he rushed out of the room to the plaintive wail of my husband. " It just needs a new washer". Water poured for our entire stay. A panel of floor by the front door would slide forward if you put weigh in the wrong place and you would have to push it back from the corridor.
What to say about the cleanliness? Well it was well hidden underneath the dirtiness.
This was a hotel that had taken on a contract with an international tour operator to service international guests, and it was a disgrace. Intrepid had no business using such a place, particularly considering that this was not a Basics style tour. I have no costs or photos for this review, simply do not stay here. There must be better places in Ooty.
