We four of us including 2 kids stayed there in March 2014. It was a very pleasant stay throughout, We took the topmost room which has excellent lake view and secluded from the main place. Outside the room there is a verandah with chairs where you can sit and relax. This is overlooking the lake downhill. If you get up early you can enjoy the sun rise, and lots of birds chirping around, eating the insects around. You can see mainly bull-bull, colourful sparrows and humming birds.

About the room
fireplace with chimney, coffee table with two chairs, Extra Bed for kids and woolen blanket provided, Very spacious with wooden flooring,
Bath tub, English style Dressing table with mirror, Small cupboard for keeping your luggage, A stool and extra chair for dressing,
Has good ventilation and lighting, towels provided but not replaced on daily basis,
Big glass windows on both sides gives you good view of the lake in front, trees on the other side,
Many plug points are available for charging mobiles etc.

People

You have two special persons to have fun with, Moby - a German shepard and Meeka the Golden retriever. Both are very friendly with all the guests and play with kids. If you have kids they will love to play.

Georgie, Anand, Raja and Chef all are very friendly and helpful. Vijay and his wife who own this place is very friendly.

Facilities
The resort has mountain bikes and well maintained lawns where you can sit and relax. Common Fireplace with barbeque, and a beautiful meeting place where you can have your food. It has the fireplace inside as well. Drinks available on request (mostly beer).

Activities
You can trek up the mountain behind the resort. You can trek downhill the resort and reach the lake, sit and relax on lake side, fishing is also possible. You can walk down the hills from resort through the tea estate in mornings.

Food

Food is excellent and delicious. All the time we enjoyed the food and kids really liked the food a lot. The menu keep changing and you get varieties of food and all tasty.
They have the garden from where they get vegetables and fruits. From fruit juice, soft idly, upma, biriyani to pasta... and deserts.... everything so delicious. You will enjoy it.

Overall

Location is excellent. Overall Lovely place to stay, Excellent food, great hospitality.

Points to note

No kettle provided for drinking hot water or for any other use.
Room warmer is provided at additonal cost and on request.
Fireplace can be used on request at additonal cost.
No phone or TV in the room. (you dont really need TV, but phone might be needed to call the resort people for any help)

You may need to transfer advance to book or confirm the stay
No printed receipts or bills, instead Vijay gives the handwritten receipt in a plain paper.

To avoid the overcrowded town of Ooty, this is a perfect place to stay in. It’s a few kilometers away from the main town, but you can drive up to this place.

The place itself is fairly small, with not many rooms. But, this also means that you get much better and personalized service. The owner is always around and he wouldn’t mind sitting with you and having a drink in front of the huge fireplace that they have.

As such, there is not much to do at the resort. The rooms are quite nice, with no TV to distract you. You can walk around the property; see their gardens and vegetable patches. They have two dogs that are very obedient; kids love to play with them. Food is above average; nothing awesome about it.

You can go for treks to the nearly rivers, or go down to the emerald or avalanche lakes. But other than that, you should rely on your books and relaxing techniques to use your time.

My only qualm about the whole thing is the amount being charged. Otherwise, this is a great place.

Booked the hotel after reading the reviews on trip advisor. And it was an awesome experience. Slightly heavy on budget but after the visit we will realize it worth every penny. Trust me, the view from the hotel is so good that we can sit there forever.

Thanks to Vijay Sir, George (Manager), Mani (Driver) for their hospitality.

Pros:-
Wonderful location. Great food. Lovely hosts.
Don't miss the treak to the emerald lake, you will enjoy it.
The trip to sunset point is good, but one should be lucky to spot animals en-route and sunset (mostly it will be cloudy) 1200/- (can be shared).
There is a four hour trek to the top of the hill behind the resort which we didn't take . George mentioned it will be good one.

Few things,
1. The journey from ooty will take a while and road is not in good condition. We can ask for pick-up and drop (1200/- one way can be shared).
2. There is no carpers covering the floor which would be good addition as the place is very cold.
3. Room heater (300/-) or the fire place (500/- to be requested by 3PM).
4. Take your sports shoes as for all the activities we need to walk in the tea fields or on rocks.

Room Tip: Select rooms t1/t2 for good views of the lake.

The hotel is just above the lake Emarald. Avalnache is real beautiful place to visit. it is approx 45 away from Ooty's busy commercial area. The final 4 Km is really BAD. The Normal Car cant make it. We were three families in Tempo Traveller hired in Coimbatore. The driver became panic by seeing the road condition. That is the only concern of the resort.

The resort is in middle of a Valley, full of natural, undisturbed beauty. Totally different than Regular Ooty life.

We booked a Lake view room. The room were spacious, neat and clean. Equipped with Heater and fire place. We visitied in Sep 2013 and was bit cold.

The activities within the resorn was good. Moby the real entertainer, playing with kids and made them busy.

Since it was raining we couldnt go for Fishing. The visit of Avalanche/ Upper Bavani and the forest safri arrnage by the resort was good

The last day Trekking to the hill was excellent. testing our body condition.

Food was excellent and every one liked it. It iwas like home away home.

I will sure go back to same resort, if I get a chance to visit Ooty and i recommend to my friends

Room Tip: Please choose Lake view Room

If you are looking for a very relaxing, private, cozy vacation, with an option of trekking along Nilgiri Mountains and walks through tea estate and along a lake, then Red Hills is a perfect place. With an added bonus of breathtaking views.

Nestled at the top of a small hill, Red hills haas amazing panoramic views of Emerald Lake.

The estate house is rich with history & had a unique charm to it & the owner Mr. Vijay & his wife reflect the same charm in their hospitality.

You can call/email Mr. Vijay beforehand, indicate the dates of your arrival & once he confirms availability of a room at his property, you can deposit an advance amount to his bank account for reservation. The balance amount may be paid in cash during check out. Do note that cards are not accepted. So ensure you carry cash.

The food is yummy & the property owners join in for a meal with the guests. The dining hall as a classic setting of leather couches infront of a fire place & on every cold evening, you can sip a drink or two infront of a chattering fire.

You can take help of their staff who act as your guide & go on a trek on the larger hill behind the estate for an even more breathtaking view.

If you are driving on your own, you may find it a bit tricky to navigate through the roads. But Mr. Vijay will promptly guide you along the route if you feel you are lost somewhere. The last few Kms are very rough & do not expect your small hatchback can tackle it. Even SUVs inch forward here. So you have the option of parking your car at designated location in Ooty & Mr. Vijay will arrange for a pick up and drop service in his SUV.

Words do not do justice the beauty of this place. Do visit once. You will love it. Especially if it is a romantic holiday with your loved one.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a fireplace.
