I do not advise this hotel even though I know it has been suffering from the effects of the pandemic. The room was clean, but there was no water in the shower, no toilet paper and the shower curtain was dirty.
The sheets were torn and old and in the restaurant one had to constantly ask for menus help, and anything else. Food was uninteresting with little choice.
It was not a good experience and they will now have to pull up their socks.

Restaurant serves tasty north indian food but services are good only on weekends. On weekdays services are not worth a mention. We had food 3 times in a period of 2 days and its services kept on deteriorated with every meal.
The Park Plaza hotel is situated about 1.5 k.m from main railway station attached with good restaurant and the items prices are moderate only taste wise very delicious and its worth for your money. The rooms are very clean and the staff and the supporting staff were very cordial.
Except for the good location, there is not many positives about this hotel.
Based on the facilities and the response of the staff, it can rather be called a decent lodge than a three star hotel.
They do not know how to handle the facilities for a good hotel. Just one example: they have a coffee maker: It has some tea bags without packet and sugar (no milk) placed on a dirty tray. but no cups! No idea what was the purpose of the coffee maker.
The hotwater is available only for the morning.
Overall a very average experience, not worth the 4K they charged for the Executive room.
The bedrooms were clean enough, serviced well, restaurant was acceptable, but unfortunately the reception desk staff were not very helpful. No information whatsoever for tourists, no 'travel desk', any query was responded to by a blank stare. The so called FREE wi-fi was almost none existent, they even changed my room to get better coverage, still took half an hour to send an e-mail. Impossible to get any 'browsing'. Roof top restaurant was hardly open and when it was there was incessant music, so I took to using the hotel next door for evening dining, on their roof top.
No international direct dial, or even any form of international communication (based on abysmal internet) the reception desk seemed aghast that anyone would want to contact elsewhere in the world and had no idea of how to go about it, they even 'phoned around seeking advise.... this is the twenty-first century.
However, handy for the bus terminus and train station and within walking distance of most of the Madurai temples etc.
I have mostly good things to say about this hotel, just wish that their maintenance of the corridors were better.
On the positive staff, staff is friendly and helpful. I just loved the food, decent breakfast and room service is quick. If maintenance can be perked up, in common areas, the hotel will be great in terms of all parameters for a budget hotel .
