O'land Plantation Stay

I’m 62yrs & I’ve been to Oland twice. December & during monsoon.

As a naturalist I find the description of the place in many words by various guests more than true

At the onset I like to thank Trip Advisor for publishing the guest reviews which was of tremendous help in discovering Oland

My comments:
Take your time. This isn’t a work target where you start late & want to reach early then blame it on the road, distance et al only cos you left home late in the first place.
Enjoy the drive while it lasts. Any vehicle will take you there... your BMW, Merc, Porshe.... talking from experience

Travel during day light if you don’t want to encounter animals, after all its their territory
Carry your own soft drinks & snacks, they don’t keep as it adds to the carbon footprint
I stayed at the Hornbill house & the best way to digest food & spend time is walk to the main dining hall for all our meals

Dont litter the place as it harms the wildlife

Activities: Bird watching, trekking, being amongst nature and doing nothing ,
Dont expect any gym, treadmill when you have the whole area to run, walk... only way to breathe in fresh air

December is actually pleasant & not nippy like Ooty

My good wishes to Sajan & the team to keep the great work going. I’ll see you the next time around

Room Tip: Estate house for those unable to walk for meals, Hornbill for the adventurous, Pepper house for a la...

Our stay at o'land was great and relaxing. Lemme get straight to the plusses and minuses:

PLUS:
1. Ethereal place nestled in an exotic locale where you can hide away from Cellphones, City noise and pollution. Value for money!!! Vodafone users will have poor connectivity. Airtel is strong.
2. Excellent home-like Food that is light on stomach.
3. well maintained Cottages
4.Hospitable staff especially the Manager Mr.Sajjan

MINUS:
1. Road leading to estate is quite trecherous and you need to be alert. Getting to estate at nights can be hazardous due to the roads. Make sure you travel during day light.
2. Room service can be better. No phones in houses. I think they purposefuly avoided the phones as people would keep calling the estate house that is perched at the top.
3. Older people cannot stay in the lower houses like pepper, studio and horn Bill. The steps leading down are very broad and can wear you out easily!
4. More activity areas like indoor games, exercise areas can be established. There were none.
5. No heaters in rooms. This could show if it is winter.

Room Tip: If you wanna stay with older people, choose Estate house. If you are young, take Pepper House/ stud...

We arrived at O'Land after an overnight train trip from Chennai and a further four hours on the toy train to Coonoor. So it was wonderful to enter this peaceful haven with spectacular views and gracious hosts. The personnel were all helpful and even accompanied us on a long walk round the estate ( recommended). A great place to recharge ones batteries!

Absolutely awesome place. Was a treat to be there. Was like heaven..I stayed in the waterfall room and got to look at this amazing view from my room every day. It was a bit cold but the owners gave me extra blankets. The food was so good and the chef made everything I wanted upon request. The nature is of another world. I will definitely return in the future.

O'land is lovely, on a beautiful hillside near waterfalls and acres of tea and coffee. It's very tranquil yet the estate is modern and comfortable. The hosts are very kind and I was overfed at each meal! If you go in the colder season, be warned that it can be very foggy! I was there in November and could not see the beautiful views most of the time. In addition, it was chilly in the room I stayed in with all the mist coming through.

I was traveling as a solo female traveler and felt quite at ease at O'land.
