among small congested lanes. Responsive staff, good location with rooftop view of the lake. Breakfast should be included in the tariff. We reached hotel at 7 am and were given the room, even though check in time was later.

Room Tip: Rooms with a larger bathroom are better.

Extremely convenient location, close to all the shopping, and plenty of good restaurants, and of coarse basically on the water so the rooftop patio provided a wonderful setting for breakfast every day. Staff were the best we experienced. After 3 days the bed started to become and issue, but for the price no complaints. Also no tv in the room for those that care.

We stayed at The Tiger during our visit to Udaipur and thoroughly enjoyed it. We arrived around 9 am after taking a night train into town, and we went straight to the hotel hoping to drop off our bags. To our surprise, they let us into our room early! That was very nice of them.

The room was large and clean, with a comfortable bed. My one criticism is that the bathroom is sort of "Indian-style" in that there is no division between the shower area, the toilet area, and the sink, so taking a shower results in everything else getting quite wet and slippery. There was good hot water and water pressure, however.

Our room featured several windows looking onto the adjoining alleyways. I found the area around the Tiger very atmospheric, and we had a good time exploring Udaipur with this as our base. You can walk from here to all the main attractions and restaurants. There is also an interesting and worthwhile folk dance performance next door to the hotel most nights -- ask about this at the front desk.

We really enjoyed lounging on the Tiger's roof and eating at the rooftop restaurant, and we also partook of the Tiger's spa services. Our massage was outstanding, and we went in the sauna as well. To our surprise, the sauna was free because we were guests of the hotel!

In conclusion, the Tiger was an excellent value and definitely somewhere I would stay again. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Some rooms are on high floors requiring you to climb several flights of stairs. If you have trouble...

I visited them last year in Feb. Although the approach road to the hotel is not that clean and tidy ( hardly 30 m stretch) but location wise it's great. So, I think it would be worth ignoring that 30 m approach to Hotel gate. It's located very near to lake (walking distance, you can take a stroll in evening)
Main road is very near and you can easily find lot of restaurants and hire auto rickshaw/can as well.
Reception is small but neatly kept and with good aeshetics.Gives you a positive vibe on entering :)
They have provided a desktop computer at reception with internet connection to quickly surf, if you need to and no charges for that.
On enquiring about our reservation, we were told we were upgraded to deluxe a/c room (we booked standard room). We got elated.
Room was good and spacious.Washroom too was spacious and with bath tub.No complaints on room other than that it was not having any windows.
They have restaurant on roof top with a docile and polite staff. We only took breakfast which was complimentary and was good both in quality and quantity.
From restaurant you get an amazing view of lake.

Overall we were totally satisified and would definitely visit them again whnever we are in Udaipur.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with lake view.

I undertook the journey to Udaipur and Sreenath Ji with my family including my old parents and in-laws during the first weekend of January 2012. I chose The Tiger as it had a rating of 11 among all the hotels in Udaipur rated on tripadvisor. The Hotel is located in a cramped locality of the old city at the end of a difficult to find narrow alley, with no space for parking. While cramped, the locality is great for walking the streets, shopping and feeling the pulse of the old city. It is right next to the famous Pichhola lake. There are good cafes and bakeries aound, (one owned by the hotel is just opposite) souvenir shops, Jagdish Temple is 100m away. The place has that buzz of a thriving tourist location.
We booked three rooms for two days. We were told that only "standard rooms" without ac were available. While I had other options I decided that even a lower category room in a highly rated hotel would be better option than otherwise. And who needs ac in winters. It turned out to be a mixed decision. The rooms were really tiny, the smallest that I have ever stayed in, around 10 X 11. While they were probably the cheapest in the hotel, yet for Rs. 2000 per day I was expecting a little more. Though the hotel itself is well maintained. The rooms and the toilet were neat, the sheets and covers were crisp and clean. The staff is very polite and generally helpful. Within the constraints of space and location it tries hard to be liked. The neatness is maintained to the standards of European tourists, who seem to be the primary customer group of this hotel. And there in lies one of the major grouses we had with the hotel. There is a sneaking feeling that as an Indian you are slightly less welcome than the European tourist. While the staff is really polite, they seem politer with the Europeans. The food is too oriented to western tastebuds. Even the Indian dishes. The primary objective in preparation of the food seems to be that it should be inoffensive to sensitive european palates. The continental food (we tried pasta) was also too flat and bland with dominating flavor of white sauce. We all grew tired of the food in one day. But the view from the dining room and the terrace is everything that has been said in other reviews. Just breathtakingly beautiful. It almost makes up for most of the shortcomings.
We had another more serious complaint. Despite having told the staff that we would be leaving for Sreenath Ji at 5 AM, the water in the taps in the morning was barely luke warm. The staff seemed helpless though it seemed they were trying to help. Also there was no hot water mixer in the basins in our rooms. To shave or wash our face we needed to collect hot water in a glass from the 4' high main tap. I have paid lesser for better facilities. If you have to use cold water to shave and luke warm water to bathe at 5 AM on a January morning it tends to colour your opinion about the place.
But again most other rooms have hot water mixers in the basins and are also decently sized. ( I checked out a neighbouring room). So if you are a european tourist in one of the better rooms, I guess you would have very little to complain. But it would be best to check other options as well if only standard rooms are available. While the tenor of this review may seem negative I would like to stress that the heart of the hotel is in right place. I may like to visit the place again someother time if a better room is available.

Room Tip: Avoid standard rooms. Just too small and too basic.
