“What a treat!”
Reviewed 2 February 2017

We booked the Deluxe Lakeview room which I can only suppose is what we got. Room 100 on the end corner of the building. The room next to ours looked larger than ours when we peeked through its door, but it may just have been a difference in the layout of the room. Ours had a sort of vestibule/dressing room with writing desk & wardrobe which I don't think next door had. That, combined with a short hallway, cut into our bedroom space. Anyway - all this is a bit irrelevant because our bedroom was a good size with a stunning view over the water and a small ghat to the side of the hotel where a handful of women washed clothes & themselves early in the morning. The bed was super comfy, bathroom was great and the balcony literally hanging over the lake was wonderful. Everything in the room functioned well and the staff were all pleasant, smiley & helpful. (No decent map of the city available at Reception, though). The hotel is in a quiet neighbourhood, with easy walking access over either of 2 bridges to the main touristy spots & some good restaurants. The immediate area around the hotel has a very nice community of small businesses, with their proprietors settling down to an easy friendliness with us as we passed by on our way to & from the hotel daily. A special mention to Moda King Tailor, Krishna the jeweller & the charming gentleman who operated a tiny mixed business just outside the hotel gates, selling the necessities of life such as tonic water to accompany the local gin (Carew is good), tissues, cough drops & a myriad of other products he seems to be able to conjure up out of thin air. There's also a very good pharmacist up the road near the second bridge. Back to the hotel: the dining room is lovely (though the angles on some of the glass lampshades in the beautiful chandeliers were a bit alarming) & the breakfasts very tasty. Upre Restaurant on the roof is terrific - food delicious, view wonderful and service excellent. Considering all this, I felt the prices were reasonable. The whole hotel has the character of an old building with the comfort of a new one. It is spotless & pretty luxurious and I can thoroughly recommend it if you don't mind spending that bit extra. Oh - and Udaipur is a lovely city.

Room Tip: We were very happy with Room 100

The Lake Pichola Hotel has classic old world feel. Four bell boys took our luggage to two rooms. The space is large and old school. This is quaint in a manner harkens back to a time not long ago when manners and regal style set the table.

The hotel is older but noble with a few worn edges. Wifi is not the greatest. The bathrooms are not the most modern and the hot water might run out.

The view that we had was not the water view but ok. We were not expecting a water view. The rooms were not the lest expensive.

But we enjoyed our stay.

My partner and I just stayed 3 nights at Lake Pichola Hotel and while it was a seemingly comfortable hotel, there were such a large number of complaints we had that we both strongly felt that it was not at all worth the amount of money we paid to stay here.

We arrived early in the morning after getting off a sleeper bus from Jaisalmer and were greeted rudely by security staff and reception staff.

On the first morning, we tried making a cup of tea in our room with the facilities provided. There was a mysterious oily residue on both cups of tea that either came from the kettle or the cups and put us off using either of these again.

Over the course of our stay, the drain in our shower clogged twice and flooded our bathroom floor. Moreover, the hairdryer attached to the bathroom wall broke which exposed electrical wires. When we told reception, they sent a man who was clearly not adept at electrical maintenance and simply tried to shove the handle back onto the hairdryer. We said that that was not safe and we simply wouldn't use it.

After returning from an outing, we discovered our room had been left unlocked after staff had been inside to clean and make up the bed. Reception were not even apologetic when we alerted them to this oversight and merely asked for our room number.

The wifi connection of the hotel also continually fluctuates and they changed the password without even attempting to notify guests.

These things may sound petty, however for a hotel which costs Rs 6500 a night we had much higher expectations and many of these things could so easily be avoided. All in all, we would have preferred to stay at the hostel up the road where you get what you pay for.

I arrived late at night because the hotel I planned to stay at lost my reservation, and this hotel was extremely kind and accommodating upon my arrival. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the hotel is simply gorgeous. Where else can you enjoy a delicious morning chai, with the sun shining down on you, while relaxing on a terrace overlooking a shimmering lake? This is a magical place and an excellent location to unwind for a few days when you need it the most!

The hotel is right at Lake Pichola and the rooms offer beautiful views. The open air roof top restaurant is quite Rima tic at night with live music and candles. The rooms are large with sit outs . The ambience is total and the lobby is nicely done. The only trouble I had was lizards . I am too scared of them and there were one to many. Otherwise a beautiful place which is close to all attractions
