We booked the Deluxe Lakeview room which I can only suppose is what we got. Room 100 on the end corner of the building. The room next to ours looked larger than ours when we peeked through its door, but it may just have been a difference in the layout of the room. Ours had a sort of vestibule/dressing room with writing desk & wardrobe which I don't think next door had. That, combined with a short hallway, cut into our bedroom space. Anyway - all this is a bit irrelevant because our bedroom was a good size with a stunning view over the water and a small ghat to the side of the hotel where a handful of women washed clothes & themselves early in the morning. The bed was super comfy, bathroom was great and the balcony literally hanging over the lake was wonderful. Everything in the room functioned well and the staff were all pleasant, smiley & helpful. (No decent map of the city available at Reception, though). The hotel is in a quiet neighbourhood, with easy walking access over either of 2 bridges to the main touristy spots & some good restaurants. The immediate area around the hotel has a very nice community of small businesses, with their proprietors settling down to an easy friendliness with us as we passed by on our way to & from the hotel daily. A special mention to Moda King Tailor, Krishna the jeweller & the charming gentleman who operated a tiny mixed business just outside the hotel gates, selling the necessities of life such as tonic water to accompany the local gin (Carew is good), tissues, cough drops & a myriad of other products he seems to be able to conjure up out of thin air. There's also a very good pharmacist up the road near the second bridge. Back to the hotel: the dining room is lovely (though the angles on some of the glass lampshades in the beautiful chandeliers were a bit alarming) & the breakfasts very tasty. Upre Restaurant on the roof is terrific - food delicious, view wonderful and service excellent. Considering all this, I felt the prices were reasonable. The whole hotel has the character of an old building with the comfort of a new one. It is spotless & pretty luxurious and I can thoroughly recommend it if you don't mind spending that bit extra. Oh - and Udaipur is a lovely city.
