“Great location/property...some small kinks...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2012

From the moment you walk up the steps thru a shower of rose petals, to the time you leave relaxed, this is a stellar property.

The rooms are all fairly large, with great views out to the surrounding countryside. All the modcons are available like flat screen TV, DVD player, blasting air con, superior room service, High pressure showers, etc... The rooms are spread over several levels in a fort, so maybe problematic if you aren't very mobile...like my father. However, they placed him in a room right by the creaky hydraulic elevator, so it was all ok. The nooks and crannies are great for the kids to explore during the hot afternoons. They also make for some very interesting pictures.

The pool is in a great spot, on a terrace overlooking the countryside as well. Didn't use the spa facilities...but did tour thru them and they seemed more than adequate.

There is one restaurant which serves a decent mix of Indian and International cuisine, which was slightly below par for a hotel of this quality...but was perfectly adequate generally. The bar was located a level lower and was far more enjoyable, although there were a lot of insects around.

The hotel arranged a trip to a nearby temple for my wife, which was well organized. Also, took us for a walk thru the neighboring Dilwara village, which was sorta cool...if you haven't been in an Indian village, but otherwise seemed like a normal walk. We had wanted to check out the step well, but the whole thing was a polluted mess...sorta disappointing.

The only really annoying part of the trip was another large group at the hotel, who were rather loud and poorly behaved. And largely ignorant towards providing basic courtesies to the other guests (blame their parents), but sometimes these things happen...and it isn't the fault of the hotel.

But generally, we had a great time and I would reco visiting the spot on any visit to Udaipur.

We had a trip in May along with two more of our colleague and my husband in March 2012. We stayed for 3 nights in absolutely wonderful heritage palace which finally got rescued by one of Mumbai based architect and owner of Devi Resorts. The hotel is part of a great heritage which can quite effortlessly claim to be the oasis of this deserted location. Although this place is apparently only 1 hour away from Udaipur city, it still has very few inhabitants with very few village houses which just gave the right setting and backdrop to any tourist. The hotel has many different types of rooms depending upon your budget but they all come at a premium price, so if you have that extra cash then do indulge in some exotic ambiences which this hotel has to offer. The highlights which impress me the most are listed below for more easy information navigation to future hotel visitors.

1. The hotel is easily accessible and reachable by car within one hour from Mumbai city and around two hours from the nearest Udaipur airport. You can get direct flights from Mumbai or Delhi.

2. The drive way to the site is not very interesting other than the great Aravalli mountains and the rock around, but the sudden arrival at the location to such a beautiful heritage spot transforms the rest of the pale terrain into a dramatic stage, where you can expect anything and everything is possible.

3. The approach steps and meandering path just steals the first charm and love of the hotel in seconds you step your foot on.

4. The very well groomed staff assists you along to the reception with delightful Indian drink to please your thirst. The moment is stolen along with the interesting glass work on the wall of the reception space which is very traditional architectural work.

5. The complex consists of different levels of manicured lawns and gardens which creates that perfect setting for picturesque scenes. The heart of the hotel holds a beautiful heated swimming pool with bluish green local limestone.

6. The rooms are very eclectically designed with very minimal things along with a outside seating for those relaxed moments for thought and long talks. Take a walk if you want to adventure the space. We did try to in our 3 days of stay, but still couldn’t finish. So try your luck…..

7. Then the complete focus was grabbed by the dining space which gets a fantastic view at any hour of the day along with the best food and courtesy that you can ever expect (in India) and any hotel in such remote e location. Breakfast was delightfully enjoyed with enthralling moments with the arrival of different kinds of food served with such meticulous thought and precision. The food and the service just override all our experience for the first day.

8. And finally the best of the best was the queen’s suite which had different rooms within to give you the best you can get in luxury. Bedroom with a view of the Aravalli Mountains. Meditation room with perfect minimalist while furnishings and few paintings along with luxury level bathroom. There are very few special rooms, but one of the suite also boasted of having a private pool, which was just a dream for us to even think of staying since we could only afford to stay in the lowest ranked rooms which primarily would have been the parking area…..for horses! ….A Horse Stable…

Anyway that’s not important; the most interesting thing is this place and the ambience. Best is what you can expect from Devi Resorts I think after my first stay at this hotel. So do check there website and hotel pictures before you take a decision on my words.

Another last word from me will be that my husband clicked lot of pictures on his camera but I just couldn’t resist myself from sketching the palace and finally I landed up doing it for one whole relaxed day next to the swimming pool.

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice, but half have a garden view and the other half which are more expensive get...

We are glad to know that you thoroughly enjoyed staying at Devi Garh. Your feedback has been shared with all the team members. Positive comments such as yours are always motivating to all of us.

We would be happy to have you stay in future as well at Devi Garh or at any of our other award winning group resorts Devi Ratn and Rasa Resorts in Jaipur.

Devi Ratn - represents the spirit of modern Rajasthan and combines lyrical spaces with bold architecture. It takes its name from the "Nav Ratn"; nine pure gemstones that focus cosmic energy. Inspired by the architectural tradition of Rajasthan, Devi Ratn has been planned as a spa destination.

Rasa Resorts – a sub brand of Devi Resorts offers the same unique service and quality one may associate with the group but at a much affordable price. For the traveller who appreciates an experience that is distinctive and yet of local origin, Rasa more than meets the expectations

Do get in touch with us for your next visit and we would be delighted to arrange your stay so that you can once again enjoy our best hospitality.

Thanking you once again and assuring you our best and personalized services at all times.

We visited Devi Garh when we went to Udaipur to attend a marriage. We went there for lunch. It was an awesome experience. When we reached there it started raining. We enjoyed in rain for almost an hour. Then we took lunch. The food was very good & the hotel staff were very courteous. The property is excellent. Its a perfect place to spend a weekend in monsoon.

This review is for people who travel frequently and adore five star properties. If you do not travel a great deal and are not aware how truly great hotels operate then the faults at Devi Garh will not worry you.

However if you know what to expect from great resorts, this one just doesn't deliver. It should - the property itself is magnificent. An utterly stunning physical experience. But it is the service that destroys it and made our stay there very tiresome.

One day you can have a latte - the next the coffee machine is broken - until you ask again for a latte and then it is available in ten minutes. One day you can enojy the Devi Garh Punch (their signature drink) - the next it is unavailable - until you ask again for a Devi Garh Punch and then it is available in ten minutes. It is as if the staff simply cannot be bothered and won't be bothered until you insist on something. We were the only residents during our stay at Devi Garh and the problems started and didn't stop. Cold showers, broken mains sockets, housekeeping wanting to do turn down service in the thirty minutes prior to dinner when we were getting dressed. We were the only ones at the hotel - housekeeping could've waited. Beds made, not changed. A couple of these problems were pointed out to management and then it was on for young and old with the entire staff asking every few minutes if everything was perfect. Sitting by the pool being inundated with water and fruits until we had to just stay stop!!! Every mouthful of a meal interrupted with someone asking how it is. I know I am sounding like a jerk but a great hotel has great service - it is very simple. Great service is about knowing when to assist your guests and when to leave them alone. And at Devi Garh it went from one extreme to the other to the point were it was simply irritating.

In relation to the cuisine, it was particularly lacklustre at Devi Garh. We had been on a culinary odyssey throughout India (if in Delhi please please go to Bukara) sampling the most exquisite cuisine. This came to a grinding halt at Devi Garh. The food was very average. Which was a shame because this was the final three days of a two week tour through India and was supposed to be the highlight.

Very disappointed.

The hotel is located further off from Udaipur, so locating it was a little difficult for us. Otherwise the entire experience of staying there was great. The rooms were nice and clean. The service too was pretty good.
An ideal location if one is looking for a relaxing stay.
