“Beautiful dhurrie rugs and wonderfully skilled weavers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2011

For a short visit (half to one hour) to see real artisans at work maintaining a wonderful skill - visit the dhurrie rug weavers at Salawas Village outside Jodhpur. Take a camera and a credit card. It will be hard to resist their beautiful designs. All the rugs are handmade on a loom. The weavers are happy to explain and demonstrate their skills and will invite you to try your hands at the loom if you are keen. The rugs are of a very high quality but are far too cheap. However, by buying them you are helping to support a family and a village and playing a vital role in ensuring that these skills are passed down to the next generation.

“Great insights and welcome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2011

During a two day stay in Jodhpur, we opted for a safari to discover rajasthani craftmanship. It is a very nice place, thanks to its welcoming and friendly hosts, and a good place to buy locally produced cotton carpets through a cooperative composed of 50 families.

“Lovely family, great fun and a good way to discover a bit or rural India”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2011

We visited this place in August. We booked a Safary Tour from Yogi's Guest House and it definetely was worthwhile. Not only the tour but also the family involved in Pukhraj Durry Udyog.

We had lunch with them and they showed us the carpet that are being manufactured by them. The business is a cooperative and the revenues are used to help develope their rural town so people do not have to emigrate to the cities.

I definetely recommend to visit them and to book the Safary at Yogi's.

If you are Spanish, you can write to me to share my opinion in Spanish as well.

best to all travelers!

“Lovely family, great food, sustainable crafts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2011

Like other reviewers we stopped here as part of the Bishnoi village tour. The family is very friendly and welcoming, the food served is delicious and the kids are adorable! We felt no pressure to buy crafts which was wonderful. Prices are affordable with 95% going to the family who made the crafts and 5% going to the village cooperative.

“Really special experience, great fun!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2011

My sister & I only had one day to spend in Jodphur, so we decided to go on the day safari with Chhotaram hoping to fit lots into our time there - we weren't disappointed! We are both interested in the creative arts so we found the insight into local crafts really fascinating, and it was nice to actually get involved and have a go at the pottery. Meeting the people was the best part - everyone was really friendly and welcomed us in to their homes/workplaces. Our guide Chhotaram had so much local knowledge to share, and delivered it in a fun, friendly way - which meant it wasn't just another boring textbook tour. He clearly loves his community and wanted to share it's beauty with us, which made the tour really special. We were welcomed in to his family home for lunch and the food was the best we'd had in Rajasthan - sooo yummy!! I usually avoid tours - but this really was a great experience, we highly recommend it.
