A nice little Haveli with beautiful carvings on the outside which were well visible from the roof top restaurant adjacent to it. Sad that we could not see it from the inside as it was closed for viewing.

...not sure of all their names but these are another reason you would visit Jaisalmer. They are all stunning - some you can go inside - some not but they are all great to stand outside and maarvel at

We were lucky enough to be shown around by one of the owners, an old man from the family who own it. He showed us around the building and gave explanations about what life was like living there in its heyday. He showed us the cunning way the decorative stonework was put together so that bits that deteriorated could be removed and replaced without having to do the whole facade, and explained a lot about the perilous living they endured in a part of the world where raids and robberies were common! There were defence strategies built into the house that we would never have understood or even noted, had they not been shown and explained to us. It was a fascinating glimpse into a rather deadly and uncertain life that the traders and their families lived. We really appreciated the time this man took to take us around, but it was pure luck that he was available and willing to do so when we were there. Hope you also get this treat if you go there! In any case, the building is well worth seeing.

The house is only marginally suitable for touring. The guide/owner is a stern man with no people skills. The place is falling down around their ears. You are stopped in the souvenirs room and encouraged to purchase. There has been zero effort to make this beautiful old haveli worth a visit. We enjoyed the view from the top, we picked up a few tidbits and would never recommend it to anyone unless they understood what they were getting into.

As with other havelis, there's always some interesting information, and a beautiful building. But it was pretty unrestored (which has its own interest) and we were too closely followed by the custodian, so it became an uncomfortable experience.
