“Avoid HHI @ all costs”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2009

The HHI is not at all what it looks like on the websites and neither do they fulfil any of their commitments that are made at the time of the reservation.Me & my wife stayed with them for a night on 3rd March, 2009.I had made a reservation using their online reservation tool which is accessible via their website. The reservation portal shows you 4-5 different rooms with different rates and different facilities. The one that I had selected was a Colony room with a rate of INR 4635.

I knew something was not right the moment we reached the hotel. To start with, the hotel is situated on a very crowded road. The doormen were just chatting away when we arrived and neither was there any bell desk to assist with the luggage. We had to lug in all the luggage to the reception table ourselves. The concept in the hotel is of two small tables which act as the reception. We were faced with the most harassed of ladies at the reception table who apparently didn’t know what a smile meant. She was morose and kept fidgeting around for 10minutes to figure out our reservation. After alloting a room,I confirmed with her if all the services mentioned at the time of reservation were provisioned in the room and she says she is not aware of anything of that sort.I knew my gut feel was right and knew that it was going to be a long haul.

We had initially planned to spend 4 nights at the hotels as we had some work @ Cuttack & Bhub. But seeing the attitude of the hotel staff,we had more or less made up our mind that we were shifting back to Mayfair the next day morning. We had to consider coming here bcos we couldn’t get through to Mayfair on time to make a reservation.Once inside the room,we realised that we had been conned. There was no wifi/no welcome drink(the list is endless)all of which were mentioned in the reservation confirmation. The worst was yet to come.We decided to have dinner at the restaurant-Kebabs at the Lobby level. We placed our orders and were waiting for eternity to get our dishes. It took them precisely 55minutes to serve us the 1st order. Finally we went back to our room and we find that there is a loud jazz program going on at the lobby level and the walls and floors are just not sound proof. So could not catch any sleep till about 12am.Precisely @ 12am the cool air from the centralised ac stopped. The AC was conveniently switched over to fan mode and it remained on fan mode till exactly 8am in the morning.Later in the day,our driver told us that it’s a common complaint by all who stay in the hotel about the AC.By morning we were bathed in sweat and the mattress was all wet.We had a quick shower and went down to breakfast and we were again greeted by a bunch of non-welcoming / non-smiling staff. My hunch is that the staff just do not want to work in the hotel.Smiles & thank you come @ a premium.Breakfast was nothing to write home about and the coffee was just warm water mixed with coffee powder. We went straight to the room took all our luggage and came to the reception and was again met by the morose stare of the lady who had checked us in.I am not sure if she was happy that we were going or was sad that she would have to do some work at check out.I mentioned all the above points in their guest feedback form and they had excuses for some of the points but nothing that they vehemently denied.

So all in all for all those who want to stay at this place, just give the place a total miss. The website is totally misleading and another point is that all the different categories of room are the same. They all have the same area and the facilities so if at all you are forced to stay here, then make sure you take the lowest one because they do not have different rooms.Mayfair is undoubtedly the best in Bhubaneswar,if you are looking at a place to sleep and go about your work, then Ginger is the best.

Stayed at the relatively new HHI in central Bhubaneswar. Pick-up from the train station late in the evening was a nice service and food okayish in the Kebab restaurant, though nothing special. The music tends to be a little loud there. The rooms are nicely styled, the bathroom a bit small and I had no real outside view. The pool, it was monsoon season, was not working and there was construction going on on a neighbouring building, part of the hotel. Service was friendly and helpful. All in all - a nice change to India's all too often dated and syleless city hotels.
