The Purandar fort is famous in History as birth place of Sambhaji maharaj, son of Chatrapati Shivaji maharaj.

This fort is around 50 km from Pune near Saswad. There are actually two forts Purandar and Vajragad. The fort is under the Military guard and one can not carry mobile camera or camera on main fort after the parking area. If military found mobile camera or camera wit you it will be confiscated and then you have to pay fine with multiple trips back to fort. So be aware.

The vehicles can come till Ghera, but the main fort is accessible by walking only. In rainy season it is fully covered with fog and with light rain mist.

We chose to climb up using the dirt road instead of the tarred road. That was very enjoyable. Can be done with kids as well. It took us 2 hrs to get to the top since we had a 5 yr old with us as well. Spent an hour on top of the fort & then descended. At points the dirt was slippery and we had to be down on our 4's and slide down. Overall very enjoyable and safe.

Best place to visit near Pune. Extremely well maintained by Indian Military. Cement road, Parking, Road from downhill to upwards is amazing. Pictures are not allowed beyond certain limit. Just 8 to 10 km from Prati Balaji Narayangaon.

Purandar fort is 50 km from Pune city. It can be cover as day trek. Fort is under control of Army hence few area are restricted whereas photography on all location is not allowed. I did trek 2 years back but now trek route was destroyed by Army so only road access is available to reach fort.
Entrance gate name is Bini Darwaja which is in good condition even today Due to the clouds, we were not able to see surrounding view but weather was very pleasant. On this route we saw few bastions, old time water tanks and some fortification. This route goes to Kedareshwar temple which was our final destination. It took us around 1 hour to reach at the temple.
