It's actually such a beautiful place but treated so shabbily by authorities and residents alike!

Needs maintenance and more funds from the Pune administration. Can be skipped from the sightseeing list.

The British feared it to be a gathering point of possible revival of the Maratha Raj! They were happy, three of its remaining stories were destroyed by fire. The Central Govt. at Delhi has always been suspicious of the Marathas, down from J.M. Nehru down to Sonia Gandhi, lest they establish their hegemony in Delhi as they ceratinly did during the last 100 Years of the Moghul dynasty!!The present Maratha dispensation in Maharashtra state, despise it as last bastion of Brahmin Raj! Local Brahmins of Pune are a powerless lot, reconciled to make headway to pastures green worldwide. Neither do they have money, nor inclination nor power. So it is a wasted site within the old city.Archaic ways & means of the Archaeological Survey of India, are a moot testimony to its demise as a heritage site. There's nothing to be gained,as the little birds chirp & the ghosts chip in!!

There is nothing much to see inside Shaniwar Wada except for gardens. All structures inside it are broken.
The entrance gate is grand and picture perfect for poster. The gardens are maintained well. You will not see many tourists here but yes you can see children playing and its kind of meeting place for love birds. Which is a bit annoying for tourists like us.
Light and sound show are also conducted every evening but when we visited they had cancelled due to monsoon.
Shaniwar Wada is located in the middle of city and traffic is very heavy around it. So be careful when crossing the roads.
