“The Best Romantic Gateaway near Pune”
Reviewed 28 July 2012

I and my wife have been going to Sinhagad every moonson for the last 5 years!!

Its offers an amazingly romantic settings in monsoons. The walk in the clouds! Cool Breeze blowing on your face! Greenery, Lakes, Valleys, Stone paths soothe your senses. The hot tea & kanda bhaji make perfect snacks in the cloudy ambience. Zunka Bhakri is also very popular.

It is advisable to travel early in the morning as the traffic increases after 10am.

“A good place to visit in monsoon”
Reviewed 24 July 2012

Sinhagad Fort, one of the important fortress in and around Pune, is situated on a cliff of Sahyadri Mountains around 1300 m above the MSL. The fort is still surrounded by greenary even after the vast expansion of Pune City. It is well connected by road and one can drive to the entrance of the fort. However, we prefer to trek in monsoon.
We reached the base by using shared 6 seaters from Swargate. It took around 45 minutes to reach the base on bumpy road, thanks to the building consturction work going around Sinhagad Road. Had our breakfast in one of the many hotels in the base and then started climbing. It's an easy climb of around 1.5 - 2 hours which kids can also do and enjoy. We took some shortcuts in some places and wished if it were not used as public toilet!
Most parts of the once extensive fortification are now in ruins but it offer a great view of the surroundings from the top. On a monsoon day, the top was windy and cloudy. It was raining heavily and was great to see the raindrops moving upwards after hitting the near vertical walls of the fort. You can have very good view of the Khadakwasla dam with some amount of luck as clouds and mists play hide and seek there. We had hot pitla bhakhri and kanda bhaji which tasted great. Food options are plenty at the top, so no need to carry food and one request would be to not to litter the place anymore. Planning to visit again this monsoon.

“Worth a visit every rainy season at least once”
Reviewed 22 July 2012

This fort and the surrounding hills are completely green (greener than the last time we were there, probably some afforestation has been done) during rainy season. And it can get very foggy sometimes reducing visibility to a few meters. It can get very windy as well, standing without support at the wind point can be a challenge for some.

Its a good healthy trek, though we drove all the way this time. Just the last one third of the stretch of the ghat has been done well after recent road renovation, the initial stretch is still as bad as earlier. Even after reaching the parking lot at the top, it's still a good walk uphill. Traffic was light since it was rainy and we reached early, but otherwise it can get crowded later during the day. While we were driving up, we could see many Trekkers walking down the road.

While the initial parts of the fort after the entrance can get a bit dirty (especially where there are a lot of vendors), thankfully amount of plastic has reduced drastically. Besides the parts of the fort beyond the eating area are still pristine and one can get spectacular views of the surrounding hills and khadakwasla lake from some points.

Without sounding repititive, visit is not complete without splurging on hot bhaji, fresh set curd and tea.
