Stayed there for a week while doing a paragliding course (unforgettable experience, just do it!) and it was fantastic. Lively, friendly and sociable venue with great food served straight from the kitchen and eaten house-party style. Most westerners in India only meet a string of touts and hustlers but here you're mingling with educated types weekending from Mumbai and the atmosphere is great. Hosts Sanjay and Astrid are great, as are all the staff in the guest house and paragliding school. Native Place is just outside a small village, Kamshet, and feels a world away from the city but is only a couple of hours highway drive from Mumbai, rent a car or just ask them to book you a driver. You might feel a little left out if you're not paragliding but there's an easy answer to that: give it a try. Wrote it up for the Independent in the UK and it's still online at http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/asia/wings-and-a-prayer-learning-to-paraglide-in-india-448410.html. Best of luck to them.

This is not a hotel...it's a gorgeous guesthouse...the owners - Sanjay & Astrid (who also run the best paragliding school in the country) also reside here (I believe on weekends/ long-offs and such)..and they are amazingly warm people!

If you are looking for some peace, quiet, selective solitude, nature/ adventure then this is THE PLACE to be. It's beautifully designed in such a manner that it's open and private all at once. It's a quaint place that reveals itself to you as you explore it. Every little path, every little step, every little turn unravels yet another quiet nook you can escape to. The place invokes an openness in you. I simply love it!

The lake which is a 2 minute walk away from the house (and very visible from the house) makes for a splendid sight especially in the evening and nights. We even swam there and that swim by far is my best outdoorsy memory in recent times (we took the paragliding course so of course FLYING by yourself is incomparable...about that we were all ecstatic!!)

Don't go there expecting high levels of service (the staff is really sweet but they have their limitations) or something fancy on the food front and you wont be disappointed. We kept eating potatoes in some form or the other on most days. But the place is so gorgeous you forgive them the repetitions most willingly. Rooms and bathrooms are basic but clean and comfortable. Bunk beds will get squeaky if you have someone who tosses and turns a lot. They need more mirrors (one in the Women's dorm at least) but maybe they don't wish to feed your vanity! :)

Go there fully prepared with your own toiletries, towels, favourite midnight snack, what-have-you...since practically nothing would be available in the vicinity. The lighting is a slight issue since it's kinda dimly lit around the whole property probably to keep up with the overall ambiance...so late night reading might not be possible (especially if you are in the dorm)...I still read in the dim light on the training terrace so guess if you are really motivated it wont really matter...

Bottomline: I love the place and I would go back. I am not blind to its faults but the positive vibes you feel ensconced in when there far outweigh the few flaws...

I had been there to Native Place aka Nirvana Adventures last Dec for my first Paragliding lessons. the ppl there are jus awesome. Right from the time i didnt know how to commute to their place, till the moment they dropped me at the nearest railway station after my training, i just felt warmth from them. the place has been one of the picturesque places i have seen. it has a reservoir next to it giving a very good ambience for evening tea n snacks from the terrace. the food is good, ppl work there without any complaints. wen i stayed there we had tents outside (n being Dec time, it was just awesome!!) the paragliding training is a very comfortable n easy ones. they give you theory lessons, then show videos, then the next morn you go for the practical lessons. When I saw other paragliding schools teaching on the training ground along side us, I realised i had chosen the right one. No wonder i m waiting for my final level course this nov!

Room Tip: I stayed in the tents outside during Dec. They were jus awesome, clean n comfortable!

I have stayed at Native Place countless number of times since 2008 (that's when I began my elementary paragliding course with Nirvana Adventures). Native Place is located in a remote village, a reason enough for peace lovers to enjoy a quiet stay. From October to May, local and international paragliding pilots flock to Native Place, as this is where paragliding school, Nirvana Adventures, resides. The local people are friendly and most importantly not nosy. Staying in Bombay, for me Native Place is conveniently located just a 3-hour drive away.

Out there it's like life is on snooze mode. You can go trekking, swimming, jogging, walking, paragliding...or simply read a book in a hammock under a tree. Now that the paragliding season is over for monsoon, I am now looking forward to going there during the rains when we go searching for remote waterfalls.

Room Tip: If you are travelling as a family or a group of friends, then you should book cottages, which come i...
