A historical Site (Ruins) . You can see Shivaji's samadhi, Darbar , Stay, Bathplace, Local market etc all at the hilltop.
Ropeway is available , so even older people can visit. A short road strip is very bad though on the way.

This is historic fort and capital of swarajya which was founded by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fort is one of the biggest forts. It takes about 2 hours to reach at the top of the fort. This fort is pride of Maharashtra.

So as it happens, the Chattrapati was informed that a young lady had escaped from the Fort by climbing down the slippery rocks. There was a possibility that she was a spy. Anyway those were the days, when espionage was being perfected to be later taught in the Cold War.

The great King summoned the woman and asked her how did she do it? She answered, that she just climbed down using her bare hands.

That was incredible. The architect Hiroji Indulkar assured the King that the fort was invincible.

The King demanded of the lady to reveal her collaborates else she would die a cruel death.

She answered, that the only way she could prove her innocence, would be to climb down again.

The King agreed,

And even today, the particular bastion from which the young woman had climbed down in the night is known as HIrkani Bastion.

The last question, Why did she take such a risk?

Well she had a small baby at home who was waiting for her. She could not keep the baby hungry the whole night. She had to go. And she went. Even if it meant climbing down the invincible Raigad in the dark night.

Such were the brave women behind the Maratha Empire that the Chatrrapati built from a scratch.
