We travelled as a family of 4 and stayed for 5 nights (we had only planned for 4 decided to extend our stay) in the sea facing honeymoon suite. The room was spacious with a huge bed, a nice open air shower in the back and a small balcony in front with a view.
The location right on the beach is convenient and unique, since most of the resorts are located further up on the cliff.
The staff is very friendly, attentive & helpfull and we felt very welcome.
In the morning we enjoyed the daily yoga class and had amazing Ayurvedic massages in the Ayurveda facilities on site.
The resort restaurant is located right by the beach entrance and it serves really great Varkala food, we ended up eating there most of the time (note it's called "Soumya's" - it's not the restaurant actually called the same as the resort).
Go for the veggie "thali" and the typical varkala "thoran" dish.
Note on The Varkala Beach:
It's wide and beautiful and we enjoyed it's lively ambiance. The water and waves were fierce at times, during our stay the best time for swimming was in the morning. The beach & surroundings aren't clean by western standards, but somehow you get used to it when in India.
We rented 2 sunbeds + an umbrella for rs 500 / day – the price could probably be be negotiated.More
