Kerala Bamboo House
Ranked #34 of 52 Hotels in Varkala

After staying in a homestay in Varkala we spent two nights at Kerala Bamboo House, just to stay somewhere more beachy for a while. It was low season when we were there so prices weren't that bad, although no food included so more expensive than elsewhere. The huts themselves are basic and clean, ours had an open- air bathroom at the back, nice for a sunny shower! Mosquito net over the bed and a fan meant we could keep the door open overnight and we were actually able to sleep considering the heat. It's less personal than other places we stayed but the staff were around if you needed anything - we quite enjoyed the time to ourselves. Very good location for the beach, so if you're not expecting 5* accommodation (they are bamboo huts of course) then this is a good choice in Varkala to be in amidst everything.

Came on a Friday night and just walked upon this place after walking along the cliff and searching. Loved the garden and relaxing on the hammock, and love the touch of a candle. Actually a decent bed and pillow for India, and neat decor. The cooking class was super-fun and yummy, but they put us down for the wrong time accidentally and the chef and crew were a bit miffed even though it wasn't our fault. Be sure to try out the one free class of yoga they offer down the cliff a ways-- great practice A bit spendy for India, but an awesome stay nonetheless.

they charge waaaay toooo much for what it is. The room was far away from being clean, they were absolutly unfriendly, we checked out 2 nights earlier than planned and checked in at the mango villa (half the price, double as friendly & clean). and dont even think about using their laundry service, you wont be able to wear your clothes ever again, ours were full of holes (but the guy at the reception just did not care). No way, never again.

The place is not fantstic but it is on the cliff with a very easy acces to the beach. The rooms could not be considered as really clean, but it is ok. Be carefull not to take the room close to the kitchens... and I had a nice visit of a mouse in the room, but in the end I think it was more afraid that me. !!!
You can bargain the prices as well, they have an internet cafe and cooking classes (did not try) they can help you find things to do, I would not recommend the elephant ride (very far away, they make you do a tour on the road for 10 mn and that's it.

Kerala Bamboo House is one of many hotels to choose from were you visiting Varkala, but it is worth staying. It is rather a midrange when it comes to price, but you know what you are paying for. And it is your private bamboo house, which is not the biggest. but it is your own, separate and private house just of the Varkala cliff.
