Varkala as a place is awesome and we definitely recommend to visit at least once !!

The resort was over priced due to year end vacation time but the room was pretty decent and service was also ok. They have their own restaurant but mainly becoz of the rush their service was a bit slow.

The lane has many resorts in competition and one should book much in advance to get the best deals around in Varkala.

There r better resorts so check well in advance before booking.

The staff were friendly and professional and the grounds were beautiful. Once you step into your cottage, however, the positives end. Our bed was damp and the mattress emitted a foul, sour smell, in addition to being extremely hard and comfortable. There was no shower curtain, no toiletries except for a bar of soap, old towels, the tv didn't work, and we encountered a spider the size of my palm. While some of these attributes may have been tolerable for a budget hotel, the Hill View Beach Resort does not market itself that way. For the price of 9,000 rupees a night ($140 USD) it was a total scam.

We stayed for four nights in a cottage and a sea view double. They were both very clean and comfortable with good AC and a fridge. The plumbing could have been better but churlish to complain at the price. You're situated at the North end of the beach with lots of restaurants and shops to the left and right and very near the steps to the beautiful beach.

Except the owner at the reception, nothing is welcoming here. The room is small, smelly, dark, cluttered with furnitures (an old wooden desk, a sofa, a worn table, a wardrobe, an uncomfortable bed) which makes the room even smaller and not easy to move around.
The bathroom was dirty. The bathtub is so wobbly that you barely dare to jump in to have a shower. As for the lining it is so peeled and dirty that you wouldn't want to have a bath. The shower curtain was stained. Disgusting!
You really wonder the last time this place has been properly cleaned.
The bedsheets were so damp, borderline still wet, that I couldn't sleep. Not to mention the noise from the disco nearby.
The only positive aspect is the central situation but there's great places for no more money around!
