We stayed here for 4 nights in June. The room was good, clean, comfy and spacious, had AC and an ensuite bathroom and sea views. The balcony was nice but not clean unfortunately...ants and food rotting on the sill - which seems easily rectified so a bit of a let down. No breaky included. I think during the low season the staff change, and although they were friendly there were a few indiscrepancies... Tibetan kitchen next door was good, and you can get morning chai or breakfast there & there are plenty of places to eat and hang out along the cliff top.

This property has an outstanding location overlooking the sea and this won us over when we initially checked in. Ernesto, the guy managing the front desk was really friendly and helpful and provided us with most of the local information. The room was nice but a tad bit small, and did not have a TV - but that was something which we were aware of while making the booking itself. We experienced a couple of long power cuts as well but they have a nice sit-out on the 1st floor where our room was - so the sea breeze did not leave us disappointed.

Breakfast was included in our package - and it turned out to be pretty nice as well. Otherwise there are tons of food joints around this place.

Except for great location on mid-cliff this hotel has not much to offer. Simple rooms, low service standard, no cleaning, many power cuts (which lead to awful hot nights in the room without fan or a/c).
Breakfast options nice at Tibetan Kitchen with sleeeeepy staff.

We arrived here after a long trip down from Cochin. The staff were friendly and immediately made us feel very welcome. Our room was basic and clean, but we were expecting more for what we paid. We were grateful to be able to drop our bags in a clean room, just a short distance from the glorious Varkala beach. If you like a hard bed you will not be disappointed (for me it was fine), if you want to flop down into a marshmallow mattress this might not be the place for you. Despite instruction from the friendly folk on reception, we never persuaded the shower to produce hot water. Hilltop has a good bar / restaurant area, the staff are extremely friendly and courteous, we returned there several times even when we were no longer residents. We stayed here 3 nights out of our 12 in Varkala, in terms of our actual room, Hilltop was a little overpriced and a little disappointing. However, the attitude and friendliness of the staff drew us back to use their restaurant several times.

This hotel is below the standard we expected. Bed linen was clean but the pillows and mattress was disgusting. We were only staying 2days so we put up with it as the position was fab over looking the beach. On the last day I slipped on the wet room floor and really badly injured my back, smooth tiles and water do not mix. My daughter complained to the manager saying how dangerous it was but they did not want to know. I also paid for one delux room and one standard room but they put us in two standard rooms. When I complained they only refunded 10,000 rupees which is basically £10. I would never advise anyone to go there.

Room tip: Give it a miss
