Up in the Western Ghats. What an amazing place! Stunning views across the mountains and tiger reserve from the dining room. Met by Simon the proprietor who joined us for lunch. Very interesting and good introduction. Our 'room'. Was actually an authentic Kerala cottage rebuilt here. Beautiful, with open air bathroom and verandah overlooking the view again. Later taken for a walk around the plantation by Georgie which was really great. Learnt lots about the trees and plants. Food was fantastic. Just so happened we were the only guests on the one night we stayed which made it extra special. Did not want to leave.

Had the luxury of having the retreat entirely to ourselves for the majority of our stay, leaving just before a big group was to arrive. Intimate, comfortable, idyllic. Rooms were traditional, with open air but private bathroom, but all conveniences supplied including very comfortable bed and optional mosquito net. Good pool. Meals were extremely fine Keralese cooking, with cooking demo provided. Owner, Mr Simon, was an engaging and knowledgeable host. All staff, particularly Joji, were friendly and helpful. Walk to top of nearby hill very worthwhile for views and understanding local area traditions. Plantation walk among the spices also good. Thoroughly recommended for a battery recharge.

Room Tip: We had one on same level as restaurant which helped given dicky knee!

We travelled as a family from the backwaters into the hills. We thought long and hard as to where to stay and we ended up making the mistake of splitting our time between The Periyar Tiger reserve and Paradisa. Periyar is overcrowded and over-developed. Paradisa is in a much better location and less far to travel when coming from the backwaters. Simon is the owner of Paradisa and what an amazing job he has done. Simon runs the retreat because he enjoys doing it, rather than needing the business. Most of the rooms are an architectural masterpiece. The location is peaceful and stunning, far away from the nearest road. The food is terrific. No chance of an upset stomach at Paradisa, The staff are the kindest people you will ever come across. Simon looked after us like visiting relatives from London. He took us in his car to a tea plantation and guided us around himself, including an old colonial golf course. Not a golf course as we know it in Europe, but a perfectly preserved glimpse of a bygone Colonial era. We had booked for one night. By some miracle, Simon managed to accommodate us for a second night. To be frank, we would have been happy to stay for a year with a pile of good books ! Paradisa is not a place to be missed. Use Paradisa as a base and visit the surrounding areas from there as day trips. Havinf said that, there is plenty to do on the estate if you like walking and learning about the plants and spices. A lot of fund for all ages. there is no TV or air-con, but believe me, neither are needed. You will be fully entertained and there is nothing better than sleeping with the windows open and the cool mountain breeze given you a perfect night sleep. No mosquitoes either. Paradisa was the highlight of our trip to India.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely in their own way. Some of the rooms have outdoor sitting areas which are great if you have children.

We cannot thank you enough, first for choosing to stay at Paradisa with your wonderful family, and then for putting down your comments in this very generous review. Happy to have been able to share with you a small glimpse of the history of our area, as well as where we are today with the organic cultivation of coffee and spices on the plantation. We do hope the memories that you have taken back will prompt you to come and stay with us again.

we stayed here just over a week ago for two nights and had a great time . they gave us a fantastic little house with a fire pit which they lit for us at night - we sat there listening to the jungle noises and loved it . Some of the meals we had there were the best we had in India - amazing chef . The main guy there organised for us to play golf at peermade golf club. We had a great time there and would recommend it to any golfer - what a stupendous setting and an interesting course .

Overall a wonderful stay and one of our best choices on the trip

The hotel is located in the hills in Idukki in a beautiful, lush setting. There are spice and tea plantations all around. The food - all fresh and organic local produce - is excellent. The villas are fine. Our only reservation is that, once you have had dinner (usually quite early) there isn't really anywhere one can sit and relax either in the central area or in your villa. The proprietor and all the staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable.

Please accept our apologies that you felt you had no place to be after dinner. Guests usually spend time relaxing at the restaurant or on the verandas of their cottages. However, we thank you for your observation - it is noted, and we will certainly look into how to address this issue. Thank you for staying with us and for posting your review. Look forward to having you with is again,
