There is not a great deal of choice of Hotels in Calicut. This seems to be the best. Certainly good value for money. The restaurant by the pool serves excellent South Indian food, especially the fish curry.
Attached to the hotel is an Ayervedic Centre. If you have a couple of hours spare it is worth haveing an Ayervedic massage, preceeded by a consultation with the duty doctor to ensure you have the correct oils used. All very professional, and for less than £10
Rooms are simple, and lacking the features of the 5-star hotels in the major cities. However, they are clean, cool and quiet.
It is worth buying spices from the local markets, as Calicut is famous throughout India for their quality. In the same market I bought some air-tight plastic containers, and in that way I kept the smell of the spices out of my clothes in the suitcase.
A hotel I would happily return to, and indeed plan to fairly soon.
