My stay at Athreya changed my life. What makes Athreya so special is a combination of things but the glue that holds the place together is most definitely Doctor Sreejit. You are blessed if you meet just one person like him in your lifetime. He gives his all plus more to his patients and it is obvious that being a caregiver is his dharma. If nothing else, go just to meet him!
It is a family business that has been passed through the generations and you can feel the amazing energy that this team of people have created to ensure that you are nurtured throughout your experience there.
The grounds are lovely, very well kempt and you are surrounded by beautiful, ever changing, rice patties on one side of the property. It is very peaceful to stroll from one end of the grounds to the other of an evening, taking the path that leads through the fields, while the sun sets.
The bungalows are perfect with a bit of rustic charm that will remind you that you are still in India but with the necessary creature comforts to ensure you have everything that you need to make your stay very comfortable. (Yes, I am talking about western toilets!) Each room has a balcony with comfy chairs to relax on, and is big enough to roll out your yoga mat to do a personal practice.

The food is divine. It is authentic Indian cuisine and changes everyday. Apart from my appointments with the doctors (the other doctor is Dr Jayalakshmi who is Dr Sreejit’s wife and she is a beautiful person), it became the highlight of my day to see what meals we would be getting! Be prepared for a bit of spice in some of the dishes. If you need to make small changes they are very accommodating - nothing is too much for any of the staff here. A special thank you to the gorgeous Vysakh 🙏🏻
The treatments will have you walking on cloud nine. They are done on the traditional hard treatment table and you must throw your modesty out the window as it’s all off with a little loincloth like piece of fabric covering you. Two therapists work in perfect synchronicity to deliver many many different types of therapies and you will easily spend a couple of hours (sometimes more) every day with them. If you need to mention something to them about your body or their work, they are incredibly receptive to your requests. I grew very fond of my three lovely therapists Thara, Anjana and Lincey ❤️.
Panchakarma is not an easy process. You are giving your body a complete detox so my advice is go there with an open mind and do a bit of research into what to expect. Having said this, it is the best thing you can do for your body, I implore you to take the plunge and do this for yourself, you won’t regret it!
If you are tossing up over which place to do it, you won’t find a better place than Athreya. Ignore any negative reviews (if there are any!) - this place is paradise!More
