“Great relaxing stay in Kochi - good location, friendly place”
Reviewed 11 April 2010

Arrived exhausted - left revigorated.
We slept very weel in a very big comfortable bed in a new room with air conditioning, a nice big bathroom. Our room was on the ground floor behind the reception. It looked somewhat better than the rooms on the first floor.
We spend 2 or 3 nights in Kochi and had good breakfasts at the hotel, tried our cooking with the cooking classes run at the hotel by the resident chef (little bit hands on, could be more but i had to take notes).
The staff was very welcoming, friendly, and very attentionate.
Location is off the main square where some gathering happen, a stone throw from the coast and teh chinese nets as well as close to the main street in the old Kochi.
we could use the hotels computer to check out the internet/emails. Not a very busy hotel when we were there and maybe got more attention because of that but the people seemed genuine and caring.
hard to find any fault, or really to push it: the stairs going up to the breakfast terrace are not suitable for everybody to climb as maybe a bit steep.
Definitely a place to come back to.

I stayed in the "suite" which was spacious but really basic and completely overpriced. 4000 INR the night is just a rip off. Especially if you know what you can get elsewhere (e.g. Noah's Ark). I had to book and pay in advance for 3 days without any possibility of a refund if I would have wanted to chang hotels.

We found Napier House in a quiet side street close the town close to dusk. The people at the desk were very accomodating as we didn't have a reservation. The rooms were comfortable and unique, maintaining some of the home feel, while still providing all the usual amenities. Breakfast had a lovely family feel. They took care of our internet needs right there in the house.

We stayed at Napier house for 3 nights during our time in India. Booking the room was easy and reliable through the online booking service. We requested an airport pickup and our driver was waiting for us as soon as we walked out of the airport.
Our room was upstairs at Napier House and was fantastic - the room was huge, the bathroom was large and modern, with our own balcony overlooking the street out front. On the night we arrived one of the staff, Joby, offered to make us dinner at short notice, but we decided to go around the corner to Dal Roti (great restaurant 1 min walk from Napier) for a quick meal and save the home cooked meal for our second night.
After returning from a tour of the backwaters on day 2 Joby cooked us an absolute feast which was the best meal of our entire trip! Joby also cooks you eggs as you like them with breakfast every morning. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful, and our room was spotlessly cleaned everyday with little touches like fresh pillow cases everyday.
Napier House is in a great location for Fort Cochin, with a short walk to the fishing nets and the main shopping strip. It is also a very quiet location with next to no cars driving past.
Internet access via the hotels computer was easily available and free!
Would recommend visiting Fort Cochin for some laid back time in India, and to stay in this wonderful homely homestay.

The Napier house is situated in a small street, no cars or rickshaw are passing from there and after over a week in India, with the sound of traffic in our ears, we were pleasantly surprised by the silence in our room! Although in a quiet position the Napier house is two minutes away from Princess street and the shops/restaurants/exchange/agencies area of Fort Kochi. The room we were in was large, clean and with a very nice bathroom. People are kind and they were greit help to find various places that we could not otherwise ever found.
In the hope to be back some days we send our best regards to Nishaf and Lijo (at the reception) and also to Joby who, along with two very nice indian ladies, was preparing breakfast and kindly found some jaggeree for us to have with our papaya and lime.

Our apologies for keeping the phone continuosly engaged, for taking always the wrong way to our room, for getting up so early for breakfast and for leaving so early on our departure day
