We were really happy to choose this peaceful beach house as our first stop of the whole week kerala trip. Stayed there for a day and felt we should have extended our stay.

Just stone's throw from the beach, it was a great experience staying there, best of course is the sitout on the top floor with a hammock and bunk-bed to relax.

Our host, Mr. Kuruvilla was really considerate and made all arrangements for stay to be comfortable. He had personally come and picked us up from Ernakulam as he did not want us to be duped by the local cab drivers. Really thoughtful of him. From Ernakulam station, it was 1 hour drive to the beach house.

Since we were traveling with our 1.5 year old son, we had lot of luggage so we were happy with the ground floor room. The room and bathrooms were spacious and everything to the smallest need was taken care of.

We were served great food by Shajimon, awesome cook and Laxmi.

We went to the beach at night. Shajimon provided us with all the necessary instructions and gave us a bright flashlight. It was a full moon night and no words of mine can describe the beauty of the beach, shimmering water under the moonlight. In the silence of the night, all we saw was waves and crabs and could hear the roar of the waves! :)

I would recommend anyone planning a Kerala trip to spend some time at the beach house and enjoy the beach at such great proximity! :)

It is best suited for those who are seeking some peaceful time away from the hustle bustle of their daily lives with no problems climbing stairs! :)

Room Tip: Room A1 is the best but I feel most time will be spent on the top floor relaxing with your beverages...

I cannot say enough how wonderful our stay at Khuzupilly Beach House was. I was part of a very large group, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable. The location is perfect: it sits on a relatively empty stretch of sandy beach with warm water safe for swimming on one side, and gorgeous, serene backwaters on the other. The rooms are basic, clean and comfortable, all with their own bathroom. The common area--where food is served and where you can while away hours reading in the swinging chairs or lounging on the day beds--is inviting, shady and comfortable with a view out to the beach. There are AC rooms available (and the AC works very well), but we were fine with the ceiling fans and open windows (which had screens). I came to India to feel the heat! There is hot water a few hours ever day, but I was so excited to see that Khuzupilly has that most blissful of beach house amenities: outdoor showers! The water pressure was good and even warm from sitting up in the tank under the sun. The food, cooked from scratch by the cook en residence Sanjimon, was some of the best I had my entire time in India. And that is saying something. It was fresh and delicious every time.

There isn't a huge amount to do on Vypin Island, and it is not the easiest place to get to. You can be in Fort Cochin in about an hour (taking the ferry), which is nice for a day trip. If you want to get away from the crowds, have some good beach time in relaxing, gorgeous surroundings, and eat delicious food without feeling like you have left India, this is the place. It has all the charm you want when traveling in India. If you want to completely escape and stay in a place with hot water and AC all day every day, this is not the place for you. But then, you are probably not looking for real India, either. I was distressed by the review that mentions it is unclean and terrible. Those guests did not even stay a night, and I can tell you, they missed out big time. The Kuruvillas make you feel like family. I was so sad to leave this magical place, and think about it often.

My daughter is a Fulbright Scholar living in India for nine months researching the mosquitoes which cause dengue, chikungunya, and malaria. Three generations of her family and friends gathered at Kuzhupilly Beach House for a New Year's reunion. We were fifteen strong ranging in age from 77 to 7 and stayed a week. Nothing could have made us happier than our visit to KBH. The owner, Mr. Kuruvilla, is about the kindest, most thoughtful man on earth. He attended to us with care, diligence, and great humor. Master chef Sajimon prepared unbelievable meals, including a special one for my daughter's 30th birthday and for New Year's Eve, complete with chocolate cake. We slept beautifully with the sound of surf from the nearby Arabian Sea on clean, comfortable beds. The beach is sublime and best of all (for India) empty. The rooftop terrace, open on four sides to balmy ocean breezes with nary a mosquito turned out to be ours alone, and we spent seven heavenly evenings enjoying ourselves, Kerala, and the excellent and varied cuisine.

While we were there four very disgruntled Americans showed up (this part of my review is called "When My Fellow Americans Turn Out to be Ugly Americans"). They oozed bad vibes and thankfully were gone within five hours. Please ignore reviews from luckyoregontraveller and traveller85usa, two of the aforementioned four. I think they would have ruined our trip had they stayed. Mr. Kuruvilla was genuinely hurt by their reviews as were we.

Go to KBH. Relax, enjoy the sea, and gorge on the splendid food! You won't regret it. [see pix of our visit]

What a wonderful place to visit for a while with simple, clean rooms and a great open-air dining/hang-out area on the third floor - accommodations are perfect for days spent exploring the beautiful beach and backwaters. Perfect for those who like to get away from the crowd and enjoy the simpler side of life. A great place to start and end a trip to South India.
