“A Gem Find!”
Reviewed 15 January 2012

I loved this. Down a street full of hawkers but don't mind that. The Synagogue seems a bit of a scrum to get into but its worth it. Cool inside from the heat of the day with wonderful tiles and chandeliers.

“One of Cochin's beautiful synagogues”
Reviewed 10 January 2012

Visiting this synagogue was enlightening for this Jew. The shamash, who is not Jewish, provides an insightful story about the synagogue and the history of the Cochin Jewish Community. It was good to see people of all faiths here including several moslem families.

“Wishing for more”
Reviewed 9 January 2012

A large crowd jostled for entry and the organization seemed chaotic. A Caucasian woman speaking Malayalam who must have been a local representative of the Pardesi Jewish community, such as it is, seemed to be in charge of controlling the entry to the synagogue - she was harried and a bit irritable with the crowds. It is hard to detect a spiritual atmosphere in this place but perhaps in a quieter time, it would be possible. The history of the flight of Jews to Kerala is certainly very interesting and there is a modest introduction to this in a small room adjacent to the main hall that is worth looking at.
