My husband and I were cruising in South East Asia in April 2014. One of our Ports of Call was Mangalore. I located Muziris Heritage Day Tours online on Trip Advisor before our cruise began. I was impressed by the timeliness and substance of my e-mail communications with Lijo Jose and, based both on the favorable Trip Advisor reviews and my e-mail communications with Lijo, booked his Company for day tours of both Kochi and Mangalore - 2 back-to-back Ports of Call on our cruise itinerary. We could not have been more pleased with either tour. For the Mangalore tour, we decided to take a private tour to visit the village of Moodbidri and the “Tribhuvana Tilaka Chudamani Basadi” or thousand pillar temple, as well as to visit the village of Karkala and the monolithic stone statue of Lord Gomateshwara. Lijo met us promptly at the ship and introduced us to our local guide and driver for the day. Our guide was Flany D’Souza. Flany was an articulate, intelligent Indian woman whose “American” English was impeccable. She was the perfect guide. Kind and gentle, yet assertive with others when our best interests demanded her assertiveness. We saw all the tourist sights we wanted, plus many more that Flany took us to of her own intiative and knowledge (including an open air market featuring local fresh fish, fruits and vegetables, Sultan’s Battery and St. Aloysius Catholic Church and College). We also visited with locals as opportunities arose. During the tour, we had an excellent Indian lunch of our choosing at the 5-star Hotel Ocean Pearl, all included in the tour price. (We loved the Mangalore curry dish: Chicken Gassi.) Our driver was both courteous and a skilled and safe driver. All in all, we had a perfect time in Mangalore and would highly recommend this Company.
