200 hours course: Beyond all expectation

Review of Shrimath Yoga
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Jun 2016
I thought I came here to learn to teach yoga. In fact what I came away with was so much more. This isn't just a yoga retreat, it is a journey. I've learned so much and experienced so much beauty and spirituality at Shrimath, words cannot do it justice. It has been a remarkable journey of self discovery. Although I have only just scratched the surface, I have come away with tools to continue this in my everyday life.

I confess even in spite of near perfect reviews I was reticent as a single female travelling to remote place without a 'personal' recommendation but it far exceeded all expectations. Krishna answered all questions promptly and tirelessly. I felt welcomed, nurtured and so honoured to be a part of this wonderful, genuinely loving and dedicated family. I cannot thank them enough for the three weeks (which literally flew by).

Thank you Krishna, Smrithi, Hema, Vanitha, Shoba, Kumar and Ravi for the invaluable teachings, for the delicious food, for the beautifully kept rooms and grounds and generally for all the care and love you showed us all... And to the local school children who made each day a blessing with their infectious sense of joy and appreciation and those beautiful smiling faces! I look forward to returning.

I highly recommend Shrimath Yoga to anyone considering a genuine, traditional, informed, intellectually stimulating, challenging, non-denominational teaching experience, .

My search for a Yoga school, in which to train 200 hours as a Yoga teacher, was simplified by searching in the Bangalore area. Shrimath Yoga is situated about an hour and a half away from the heaving metropolis of India's third biggest city, and the International airport. But it is a tranquil oasis of calm, peace, learning and intense spirituality; surrounded by vibrant nature on the outskirts of a sweet and unspoilt village. In this simple setting, myself and a handful of other students of Yoga began our journey to shed our preconceptions of what the Yogic path is, and in the course of our 21 days (in my case) to acknowledge and shed unnecessary parts of my former self, and to grow and face the morning sun with such an intensity that just makes me sit and gasp (as I sit again in my home in Northern Europe). All this transformation, growth and joy was carefully guided and nurtured by the excellent team at Shrimath Yoga. I cannot recommend this small, family-led school enough :-)

Shrimath was referred to me by a friend who hadn’t actually stayed at Shrimath just yet. I wasn’t sure what to expect in a country I had never visited or what life at a rural ashram would be like. It was most definitely an experience I will never forget.

The simplicity of Shrimath is refreshing. It was quite nice to step away from all of the daily “comforts” I’ve become accustomed to growing up in the United States. It helped me realize how wasteful I can be and how much less I can, and should, get by with. It’s also nice to have all-vegetarian meals prepared from scratch and some of the best dishes I’ve ever had! Between the vegetarian diet, very little sugar or caffeine, and the asana classes two times a day- in the three weeks I was there I was probably healthier than I had been in some time and with a clear state of mind.

The classes at Shrimath resonated with me at a soul-level and gave me a deeper understanding about the yogi’s path, the history of yoga and how it’s been practiced for thousands of years in India.

I loved getting to know everyone at Shrimath, the lovely conversations with Smrithi and Vanitha. Krishna is extremely knowledgeable and it’s clear he doesn’t only teach the path, but he practices this lifestyle as well.

And I can’t leave out the tremendous impact the local school children had on my over-all experience. What an honor to be able to visit these precious souls every day. I only wish I had come more prepared with daily lessons and school supplies for them.

I have every intention of visiting this wonderful place again. I only hope next time I can stay longer than just three weeks.

I chose to do my Yoga TTC at Shrimath Yoga sole based on the reviews here on tripadvisor! At first I thought it was a risky decision to decide about 2 months (almost) of mine and my wife's time, money and will to learn the tradition of Yoga simply based on other people's opinions. Well now, I realize what a amazing choice it has been. I purposely took long to write this review because I wanted to feel how these 2 courses and my personal experience at Shrimath would effect my life in the long term, not just when I first got out. After being there I have tried my share of yoga schools and teachers, and came to the conclusion that I could not have had a better foundation. Not to mention friends which I believe we have made for life. Krishna, Smirthi and Hema welcomed us like family and we will always remember this. Definitely not a choice made by us, this definitely had divine influence.

Love thanks divine grace!!!

Shrimath is the perfect place to the ones that sometimes feel unsatisfied with the lives they have. For me it was as I have pressed the ‘pause’ button and entered in a new dimension, a new reality. Krishna, Hemma, Smriti, all the team and the entire space taught me much more than postures and breathing processes. They also gave me classes of humility, detachment and faith. I came back to my life with a profound feeling of thank to all that I have, to all my family and friends, to all my sweet problems. I brought a full bag of tools to better deal with the daily frustrations, fears and bad feelings. I brought a heart full of faith.
You won’t find luxury at Shrimath.
You will find people that will cook separate meals for you if you need, you will find people that will look at you as an individual in the group and will teach you according your ability or mental pre-disposition to learn, you will definitely have laughs and amazing moments of pure fun.
I recommend Shrimath to everyone that wants to learn about Yoga and about her/himself.

Shrimath yoga delivered what I was looking for about yoga. I went there not just to learn yoga postures, but to learn its philosophy and how to live differently. The instructor Krishna has wide knowledge about yoga and he gave us valuable guidance to live healthily and happily by practicing yoga traditions. Asana teacher Hema is so wonderful and she turned us onto the path of a yoga teacher - even though I had only basic yoga skills at the beginning.

Being a small group gave us a lot of opportunity to inquire and get answers. The centre is located at such beautiful village, brimming with flowers and birds. Sitting outdoors and admiring the peaceful surroundings was wonderful.

I recommend Shrimath Yoga to anyone who is looking for more than just the teacher certificate.
