Omthara Kala Kuteera cannot be explained but needs to be experienced. This divini serene heritage centre is an epitome of architectural excellence. Very tastefully built, it took them 20 years to bring alive this dream.Attention to detail is magnificent. This place gives you a visual treat on our mythological stories we have all learnt from time immemorial. The manager Mr. Padmanabh's patience and enthusiasm and his effort to ensure that your a great experience is laudable. The food and snacks served there is excellent. You have to visit this place to know what they have to offer. You need a full day to see the place in its entirety. There is an entry charge and the minimum pax is 10 to visit this awesome place.I am looking forward to visit this heavenly place soon.

This place is a must visit for mythology enthusiasts and classical artists. The ambiance is just about what classical dancers need. Every wall and pillar has been etched with details and complemented by the thoughtfully chosen furniture. An excellent place for children to learn about the mythological stories. It's a paradise for kids who read Amar Chitra Katha! The building is in the shape of a lotus and as you go up floors the landscape is a sight of serenity. It would take half an hour to study one wall or pillar, and 3 days or so to completely look around the place.

We were blown away by the beauty and scale of the art work within Omthara. Mythological narratives and iconography are woven into the stone architecture over 5 levels. The surrounding greenery enhances the tranquility of the place. A unique experience for anyone visiting Bangalore.

Omthara Kala Kuteera is nestled in a thicket just off the road to Hassan in Nelamangala.
A nondescript board points one in the direction of the Heritage Center which comes up quite suddenly as you weave along an uphill road, taking the viewer completely by surprise.
The huge stone structure had been a labour of love and lifelong aspiration for Mr Ananthram, who was a great Hindu scholar and lover of the arts.
By the joint efforts of him and his wife this gallery came to life over a span of more than 25 years.
The architecture is circular and covered on many fronts with stone carvings of the Hindu Gods.
Inside a cornucopia awaits; a visual and spiritual treat featuring Indian paintings, sculptures and art forms of various states across the country.
The building has Hindu mythology sculpted on the walls with the great epics Mahabharata and Ramayana etched and colored in stone and wood. Several floors of these paintings and sculptures leaves the viewers with new wisdom, a better understanding of Hindu culture, and a sense of astonishment at the magnitude of effort to bring this project to fruition.
As one proceeds up the monument they come to the meditation room- a place of silence, awareness and introspection. The statute of Buddha in the room is the veritable master.
A reading room and library adjoins this space.
The Dashavathara - The 10 avatars or manifestations of Vishnu is carved on wood and decorates an octagonal space. A ‘sound and light’ treat awaits one here with a story narration of each avatar accompanied with sound effects and light.
Thus enlightened, one can then relax on the terrace open to surrounding trees, hills, cool breeze wafting through. Chirping birds and crickets brings to mind of being in a forest and the proximity to town is forgotten.
Cafe Annapoorneshwari serves up delectable vegetarian food which can be worked off with a stroll in the 25 acres of wooded gardens.
Dorms and room facilities are available for overnight stays.
All in all, Omthara is a treat for the senses, peace for the soul and enlightenment of the mind- a heady package indeed!
A must do for everyone visiting Bangalore.
