Owner description: The Bangalore Palace was the private residence of the royal Wodeyar family. Built to resemble Windsor Castle, this quirky palace is filled with an interesting and eclectic collection of art and paraphernalia from a bygone era. The palace grounds are a popular venue for rock concerts and other music events.

“Beautiful!”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

It was a pleasure to see how the Shah had lived and hear of the events that had occurred within the palace. It was a nice insight into 18-19th century aristocratic history. Interesting that there were different prices charged for Indians and foreigners. A wedding was being set up on the grounds (cost of approx 20 million!). Very interesting to see!

“Steeped in history-faded splendour”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

We were wondering how maximise our day in Bangalore...we had been given a tip to try Chickpet markets which have clothing and fabric and extend through to the local markets which have everything under the sun, in a confined space with much movement, crowds and noise. Not for all, but definitely for me-a slice of 'real life' in Bangalore apart from the intended tourist strips at Commercial Rd. Would not go on my own, too easy to get lost! ...and then off to the Bangalore Palace by autorickshaw...we were delighted to find the self managed tour with a digital recorder and headphones to translate. Spent an easy 1.5 hours enjoying the faded splendour of times past. The palace is used for events and is still lived in by the family who owns it. This explained the red carpet in the palace forecourt. Managed to get an autorick home so all went well....Lalbgah Gardens on 26 Jan (Republic day) is also a great spot to be!
