I have been staying in Bangalore city for a decade ,but never explore the iconic and historic places Bengaluru.I got an invite from my dearest friend Vidya Lakshmi for a walking tour to see a few market places along with a Spanish family.
So our walk started in Dargah Hazarat Syed Pasha Qadri Shaheed RA ,near SJP road old Thsrsgupet ,Dodpete ,Bengaluru. at 9 am
It was a market trail. So for the first time i have experienced the real KR market and got to know so much interesting fact ,and history behind this iconic fresh produce market.
The way Vidya shown this place was amazing. Each and every little fact she explained to us and made us see it in a very different prospective.
We also visited Russell Market Dharmaraja Koil St, Shivaji Nagar, Bengaluru and before visiting the market she took us to St. Mary's Basilica. The Gothic architecture is designed so gracefully and beautifully.A beautiful statue of Mother Mary holding Child Jesus in her harms, 6 feet in height, is set up in a an attractive shrine just outside the Church building, is the chief object of veneration and source of inspiration for the people. Every day is draped in 'Sari' the typical dress of the Indian lady. Vidya told us that in 1875 when the new Church was built, people tried to remove this statue in order to install it on a prominent altar inside the Church, but they failed in their effort since the statue remained immovable. This strange happening is considered even today as a sign of Our Lady's miraculous power.
Then we went to Russell market and this is one of the oldest structured markets in the city.Really good style. They got separate section for fruits, vegetables, seafood, meat and poultry. This place is the the real charm of Bangalore. You will get everything fresh.
We had some amazing dates ,samocha and ginger tea .Then She took us to spice market and Excelsior Bakery & Dept Stores, has been around since 1930. It was set up by the dynamic duo of British-meet-Indian Mrs. Emery and an expert confectioner, Sagadev from Krishnagiri. The bakery has been selling cakes and bakery products ever since. We had some mouth watering chicken puffs out here.
Our walk trail ended up with delicious biryani at Taj hotel in Shivaji nagar. I had lamb and fried chicken kebab which was amazing.
It was so interesting and fantastic way to explore old Bangalore with Vidya Lakshami, Awesome walked with you ...thank you so much for taking the time to do it. I highly recommended Unhurried Bengaluru, India with Vidya Lakshmi for a ultimate walk of markets of Bangalore.
