I was in Bangalore for work and booked two tours as I arrived two days in advance. Both tours, Basavanagudi with Vidya and Medieval Bangalore with Usha, were fantastic. Poornima was very accommodating to my requests. Vidya and Usha were so knowledgeable and nice. As a female traveling alone, I really appreciated private tours with female guides. Employees at my company were impressed with what I had seen and experienced with Unhurried. Probably one of the best tour companies I've ever experienced, wish I could give more than five stars.

I have been staying in Bangalore city for a decade ,but never explore the iconic and historic places Bengaluru.I got an invite from my dearest friend Vidya Lakshmi for a walking tour to see a few market places along with a Spanish family.
So our walk started in Dargah Hazarat Syed Pasha Qadri Shaheed RA ,near SJP road old Thsrsgupet ,Dodpete ,Bengaluru. at 9 am
It was a market trail. So for the first time i have experienced the real KR market and got to know so much interesting fact ,and history behind this iconic fresh produce market.
The way Vidya shown this place was amazing. Each and every little fact she explained to us and made us see it in a very different prospective.
We also visited Russell Market Dharmaraja Koil St, Shivaji Nagar, Bengaluru and before visiting the market she took us to St. Mary's Basilica. The Gothic architecture is designed so gracefully and beautifully.A beautiful statue of Mother Mary holding Child Jesus in her harms, 6 feet in height, is set up in a an attractive shrine just outside the Church building, is the chief object of veneration and source of inspiration for the people. Every day is draped in 'Sari' the typical dress of the Indian lady. Vidya told us that in 1875 when the new Church was built, people tried to remove this statue in order to install it on a prominent altar inside the Church, but they failed in their effort since the statue remained immovable. This strange happening is considered even today as a sign of Our Lady's miraculous power.
Then we went to Russell market and this is one of the oldest structured markets in the city.Really good style. They got separate section for fruits, vegetables, seafood, meat and poultry. This place is the the real charm of Bangalore. You will get everything fresh.
We had some amazing dates ,samocha and ginger tea .Then She took us to spice market and Excelsior Bakery & Dept Stores, has been around since 1930. It was set up by the dynamic duo of British-meet-Indian Mrs. Emery and an expert confectioner, Sagadev from Krishnagiri. The bakery has been selling cakes and bakery products ever since. We had some mouth watering chicken puffs out here.
Our walk trail ended up with delicious biryani at Taj hotel in Shivaji nagar. I had lamb and fried chicken kebab which was amazing.

It was so interesting and fantastic way to explore old Bangalore with Vidya Lakshami, Awesome walked with you ...thank you so much for taking the time to do it. I highly recommended Unhurried Bengaluru, India with Vidya Lakshmi for a ultimate walk of markets of Bangalore.

My daughter and I had two days in Bangalore on a larger tour of southern India and ended up doing two tours with Unhurried because we loved them so much. We first did a history/heritage walk in Pete with Usha during which we learned about Bangalore's early history as a city and explored markets and temples in this area, closing with a traditional south Indian breakfast. Based on how much we enjoyed this, we signed up for a food tour with Vidya in Malleswaram which was truly fabulous. We ate a diverse range of dishes and sweets at local eateries we never would have found on our own and learned about south Indian cooking and ingredients from Vidya who is also a local food blogger. These were both private tours and very reasonably priced with excellent value. We look forward to recommending Unhurried in future and staying in touch with the team.

I did three tours with Unhurried, and got to experience all three of the guides - Poornima, Usha and Vidya. They were all excellent and interesting walks and all three guides were great. If you only have time for one, probably go for the Pete (old town) walk as it gives a good introduction to the history of the beginnings of Bangalore and its interesting to wander the crowded narrow streets of the market areas of the city where it all began with a knowledgable guide. And Poornima really is knowedgable, she has spent a considerable amount of time researching the history of Bangalore and really knows a lot about that and about Indian and Hindu culture in general. The Fraser Town walk is an interesting look at a part of Bangalore that came later under the British and provides a glimpse of a side of the city that feels different to the Pete area, with its wider tree-lined streets and more of a Muslim influence. This tour also contains some food tastings, including some incredible biriyani at the end. I also did the Malleshwaram tour to experience an area of the city that is slightly quieter and more planned, so combined these three tours provide a good overview of the city. Unhurried also offers many other tours as well. I would say that the tours are a little expensive, especially for a solo traveller on a budget, but if you can afford them then you can be assured of high quality. Thanks to the team for giving me a good insight into the city!

Dear Daniel,

Thank for taking time and giving a comprehensive review. We enjoyed showing the different facets of the city to you. As with all walking tours worldwide, the base fee of a private tour is the same - though we did offer a discount on one of the walks for you:) Do check our monthly schedules for open walks & tours that are at discounted rates.

cheers,
