I stayed at the Indus River Camp for over a week at the beginning of September 2021. It was a genuinely unforgettable experience. Many of Ladakh's amazing other-worldly qualities can be best experienced at the Camp, whether it's being able to sit by the riverside to enjoy the sunrise or sunset, take in the views of the stunning milky way at night, or go on a short walk to see the unique Bactrian camels. It was very peaceful, and the cabins were lovely and very comfortable, with all the amenities you'd expect. The Camp is making commendable efforts to run itself sustainably and minimize generating waste.
Special mention to the kitchen run by Mary with really exceptional food, many interesting locally sourced ingredients, and tasty yet very healthy menus (often hard to come by when travelling). The host and manager, Nico, is always available and extremely knowledgeable and helpful with any travel advice and travel bookings. All the Camp staff were also very kind and helpful to me -- I had a lovely time practising yoga on the morning deck with the in-house instructor Konchok with a backdrop of the mountains that I will never forget, and a really fun afternoon shopping for antiques in Leh's main market with Jigmet. Thanks for such a wonderful visit, and I truly look forward to being back soon!More
