“Home away from Home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2012

If I have to describe my experience of the stay at ladakh sarai in one word it is – fantastic!!

We were a group of 10 travelling from Delhi, via Manali to Keylong - Sarchu – Tso moriri – Leh – Pangong Tso – Nubra – Namra/Temisgam – Mulbekh – Kargil – Srinagar. It was a 15 day road trip and no words and photographs can explain what your eyes shall see and your heart would feel!!
If this drive is a “must do once in a lifetime” then it is mandatory to stay at Ladakh sarai to complete that feeling…..Coz nothing can beat the location and the hospitality of this resort. Though I am confused how to term it, as it is not a hotel or a resort but
"home in the lap of the nature!"
There are many options for accommodation in Leh, ranging from small budget properties to five star rank hotels, but if this stands first in the ranking, and then you can totally trust the reviews.
Truly beyond expectations in terms of stay(warm and cozy), food (exotic candle light dinner with the menu that would manage to surprise you each night), surroundings (absolutely serene and calm), service (no words).
Have travelled to many destinations across the globe, but one place we surely want to come back to again and again…..the warmth of the people running the show and there ever smiling faces would not let you leave the place. It has a sense of attachment that grows onto you, as soon as you enter the space. Located away from the city with the beautiful view of the valley, it is luxury redefined.

Room Tip: rooms downstairs were all very good, with a beautiful view and serene surroundings! my favourite - r...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your Ladakh Sarai experience on the Trip advisor. I am so glade that you had really good time with us. Your highlights of Candle lit dinner, quite and peace of the surrounding is absolutely true.
Once a booking request comes to us, we try to tell our guest to book Ladakh Sarai with at least breakfast and dinner, there's two reason for it, we are away from the town and the second is that we do a decent job especially at dinner, lot of thoughts and discussion happens before a meal ( especially dinner ) is prepared. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Be well and happy travelling,

Rigzin

Well I think I will be shorrt of words to write about Leh and Ladakh Sarai. Ladakh Sarai is definitely a unique experience. It is for the people who wish to stay in lap of nature. It is not a typical hotel and it is not for the people who wish to stay in a typical hotel or in town area. Here Luxury has a different meaning of staying in the lap of Mother Nature, peacefulness, quietness, awesome view from your tents and sitting area, beautiful dinning area. Sarai is definitely a different experience .

The staff at Sarai was so helpful and always smiling and ready to help you. We had many dinners and Lunch at Sarai and food is awesome. They have so much of food variety and cuisine to offer and they try their best to cater each guest’s food choice and taste.

The mongolian Tents were so beautiful and warm from Inside and very comfortable. There was hot water running in bathroom 24x7.

Our entire Journey was booked by Sarai and Mr.Kapli and Mr. Rigzin has shown amazing patience and answered to all my long queries. They have made excellent arrangements for our entire journey which started from Chandigarh.. Even the car drivers they have arranged were so helpful and courteous. We have changed our itinerary at last moment after arriving Leh and still they have managed to give us alternate options. Mr. Rigzin is very warm and helpful person. We wished to spend some more time with him and listen to his interesting chats and stories about Leh but unfortunately we did not get a chance. Though in his absence his brother sonam and Anchuk took our good care and made sure that we are having comfortable stay.

So if you are looking for amazing warm services and wish to enjoy a unique different experience Ladakh Sarai is a Place to stay in Leh. We are simply in love with this place.
THE BEST PLACE TO STAY IN LEH.

Dear Mausami,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience at Ladakh Sarai and our sister concern camps at Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake.
I am glade that the drivers and all support crew stood on top of their job. I will definitely share your generous praise for their work with them.
I am so happy to learn that you have enjoyed the quietness, serenity of our surroundings at Ladakh Sarai. Thank you for appreciating the Sarai experience in its totality.
I am sorry that I could not spend enough time with you and your friends; I hope we will have another chance if life permits- perhaps, when we have a similar experiential resort in the Nilgiris in time to come, you would visit us there.
Till than be well and happy travelling.

Team Ladakh Sarai and Wilderness Experience.

Ladakh Sarai served as the base for our 8-day tour of Ladakh and spoilt us so much that we certainly would like to go back there again and again. Difficult to spot the best part as everything exceeded expectation, including the location atop the model village of Saboo. We stayed in yarts 16, 15 and 7, the last with best of the views but having some issues with the water outlet at the bathroom. Even we felt it was a bit of a waste to drain away two buckets of water (at least) to get hot water flowing and it's good to know that come September, this issue should no more exist. Food, especially those candle-lit dinners at the community dining space, was awesome in variety and taste, served with traveller tales. The icing on the cake was when our three-year old kid asked for and got Momos delivered hot on our last night at the Sarai. That she could see a tiger otherwise invisible to human eyes in the surrounding gardens can be attributed to Rigzin, who despite of his mother's illness, kept the travellers in good humour. Travel arrangements were impeccable, and the ever-smiling Akash did a fine job with the accounting, too. We had specifically asked for tented accommodation and got the real taste of it at places like Nubra Sarai or Ulley Ethnic Camp, but Ladakh Sarai was something more than just luxury yarts- it was five nights of pure bliss among strangers whom one can call of his own.

Room Tip: Rooms on the lower level (6-15, I suppose) have better views.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for sparing time to write this lovely review about us and your trip in Ladakh. I am absolutely glade that you have had wonderful stay with us. I hope your little daughter too had a good time despite being her in that age. I remember her not having a great appetite that obviously aggravated with the alitude related issue. I am glade that she adapted well as time rolled, and that I was able to show her few tigers invisible to all of us.
I have noted your concern with water logging issue is in room no. 7. Thank you for pointing it out to us, we will sure fix it soon.
Thank you for choosing Ladakh Sarai for your Ladakh adventure.
Be well and happy travelling,
RIgzin

This is more than a "hotel", it's a lovely oasis in an otherwise dry and desert-like area (but still - Leh is beautiful!). It is a bit more expensive than other alternatives in Leh, but worth it I think.

Even when we arrived in the middle of the night, we were greeted by friendly members of staff, and given a cottage. The staff continiued to prove service-minded and helpful throughout our stay. They can also help with arranging trips in the surrounding area.

The resort is located 10-15min drive from Leh town, but it is always possible to order a taxi to take you whenever you wish to go.

The food is excellent, and the portions are big, always more than enough food. Possible to eat inside, or outside in the yard - lovely to have breakfast in the morning sun.

During our stay, the resort only had electrisity (and hot water) between 19.00 and 23.00 every day. This is not a problem if you are aware (we were not..) I don't know if this is only in certain periods, but for July - that was the case.

Room Tip: Try to get a cottage with a higher number, like 11. They have a good location and a fantastic view...

Dear Mam,

Thank you for your lovely post, if I am not mistaken you drove from Manali and got really late because of the roadbloacks and arrived past midnight and you were alloted yurt number 2 for that night by our staff. I am sorry that you did not get hot water in the morning in your yurt, perhaps, you were not briefed that you have to leave the tap open for few minutes before hot water run through, and yurt number 2 should not have any problem since its very close to the boiler that heats up the water through a oil burner. Nevertheless, my extreme apology for the same. From the Sept., we hope to change all our old solar geyser and replace them with new ones and hope to provide hot water to our guest 24x7.
I am really glade that despite the hiccup with the hot water issue, you enjoyed your stay with us at Ladakh Sarai and you enjoyed the breakfast in the morning sunlight. The natural lights among the trees is such a premium. Isn't it?
I will share your kind words with my team.
Be well and happy traveling.
