We stayed one night at Omasila as our tour operator couldn't accomdate in the Lotus Hotel after our return from Nubra valley. By the time we reached, we were expecting lunch ( as per our AP plan), but got disappointed as apparently they didnt recive any intimation. This was communicated to us after 30 min of waiting at the reception. The manager is not so warm especially after the Lotus Hotel experience. So we went back to Lotus Hotel for lunch as arranged by our tour operator ( Overland Escape) after this fiasco.
The property is very good, rooms are just fine. The highlight was the service by one of the Goan staff ( although he is from Karnataka by origin) He stays 6 months at Leh & 6 months at Goa.
The guy knows customer service & delight. When i asked him what time does the breakfast service starts..prompt reply came.."Sir what time do you want? i will ensure. " I was delighted by the answer after a pathetic experience at Organic Retreat in Nubra Valley ( Hunder village).
Hotel has fantastic flowers, garden etc. Although the serving staff is largely women. Since we were travelling in our own Scorpio didn't quite get help from the staff to dismount the luggage.

If the owner & the manager improves their communication skill, the hotel's perception & delight point will change. We missed the personal attention as was showered by the owner & manager at Lotus Hotel.

Room Tip: Take rooms in the upper floors

Our tour company ignored our request for a mountain view room which was a shame, since we were only able to get one for 1 of the 4 nights we stayed here. I would stay here again if I could have one of those rooms, but otherwise not. On the other hand, the restaurant was very good and the service was excellent there.

Room Tip: Mountain view rooms makes it worth it to stay here.

We were a family group using 3 rooms at a time with three arrivals since we left to stay at other locations on some nights. As a result we used a total of nine different rooms, the quality of which varied greatly. Possibly our initial rooms in the basement were a result of our tour company trying to save costs (even though we had ordered accomodations of a certain quality). Our second rooms were very good, but we were unable to keep these and our third rooms were better than the basement ones but a downgrade from te 2nd ones. There is a wonderful garden and deck which adds greatly to the attraction of the hotel. The view of the mountains from almost all of the rooms is stunning. Eating all but one of our meals at the hotel, we found the dining room staff accomodating, with a special note for the dining room manager who could not have looked after us better. Personally, I found the food very good. Housekeeping staff were also pleasant and accomodating. Avoid the basement rooms. I think I would try another hotel next time.

Room Tip: Avoid the basement rooms. Rooms on the main floor can be noisy if people are sitting in the lobby.

A good option for stay in Leh. This is a reasonably well managed and maintained property. It is one of the older properties in Leh, but has a great view and a good location. It is about 8-10 minutes of walk from the town centre and has some great restaurants and coffee shops to eat out at all around. Another convenient feature is a general provision store opposite for basic stuff.
The rooms and bathroom were simple but clean and comfortable. There was regular hot water, it was well lit and the one we took (suite room no 22) had a great view of the Shanti Stupa. The staff was very sweet and the service was great, had a nice sun-deck/terrace to sit out in and they served a fabulous masala tea! The hotel had a restaurant which served buffet meals and catered for the groups. We avoided eating at the hotel except for breakfast, anyway there are great restaurants all around. The breakfast was simple Indian fare - puri-bhaji, upma, poha, idlis and eggs to order. Among the restaurants worth trying are - Rice Bowl, La Pizzeria, Wonderland, Himalayan Cafe and our prized discovery - Dogra Dhaba in the main market.
The negatives, for which you really can't blame the hotel - erratic wifi (mostly due to ISP's issues) and frequent power cuts.  In Leh, the mobile telephony services are basic GSM no 'edge' or 3G, also remember, if you have a pre-paid mobile connection, you will not get connectivity in the state of J&K.
The four star rating is because of lack of a-la carte meals at the restaurant especially when it's raining or very cold to go out to eat.

Room Tip: For rooms with good views, choose rooms no 21/22/23. They have a separate sitting areas and are spac...

We visited Leh from May 23 to May 31 and stayed at Omasila. I would recommend strongly recommend it to all visiting Leh. The rooms are good and view from hotel garden and some of the rooms and suites is excellent. Having early morning coffee in the hotel garden is great pleasure. The staff was ever smiling and willing to serve. The hotel serves excellent breakfast and buffet meals. Mr. Nawang and Mr. Puni take great care of their guests. At my request they had arranged for local sight seeing and visit to Alchi, Zanskar, Hemis, Thiksay, Pangong Tso and trip to Nubra inlcuding overnight stay there. The vehicles and drivers were excellent. The hotel is about 15 minutes walking distance from main market and situated in a quiet street. There are lots of restaurants around offering multiple choice of food in case you choose to eat outside. All in all a good stay at Leh. I was very impressed by local people, who are humble and helpful.
For tourists with limited time I would suggest visiting Shanti Stupa, Hall of Fame, Thiksay Monastry, Magnetic Hill and River Zanskar in local sightseeing . If you have a day to spare and willingness to undertake road journey (about 4 hours one way) you can visit Pangong Tso which is beautiful. Those with two days to spare can visit Hundur (Desert with sand dunes at height of 11000 feet above sea level) in Nubra Valley and enjoy riding double humped camels.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on higher floor facing the mountains and garden.
